So if it wasn’t the GR 300 you’re out. lol see my point is you wouldn’t be happy no matter what they brought over.Cars depreciate yes, but blindly turning an eye to a company downgrading the nameplate is something to simply ignore? I guess you don’t care about what you own then. You might as well deem all your property worthless in that sense?
If they brought the 300 GR to the States here, it would allow people to still put the Land Cruiser name on a pedestal and not have it only as their mid tier product line.
No, the sequoia should not be the flagship model here in the States. Toyota majorly messed up by taking this stance.
And yes, the Land Cruiser name used to mean something special to me. But every day we are getting closer to the launch of this product, I lose more and more of that feeling because we will have to settle with a mediocre product rather than getting the 300. It’s a very sad ordeal.
I wouldn’t have high hopes that this 250 series will have a “built for life” aspect because the product was built to a price point. Unlike previous cruisers which had a, “eh why not, throw a few more bolts on that piece” or “let’s beef up this piece to make sure it WILL last”.Oh my goodness, vehicles are depreciating assets?!
I don’t own three Land Cruisers because I think they aren’t going to depreciate. I own them because they are quality built trucks that fit the “buy it for life” mindset. Sure I’m disappointed we don’t have the 300 with a split gate, but I’m excited for something a bit different and reminds me strongly of my 80 series.
I would be happy if they brought the 300 GR because it could eventually replace the 200 as a rightful successor. Still would be mad about losing the V8, but that’s out of Toyota’s control. They can’t put V8’s in vehicles anymore. So if it wasn’t the GR 300 you’re out. lol see my point is you wouldn’t be happy no matter what they brought over.
Also not blindly accepting the 250 I’ve seen it on multiple occasions.
Sad you’re not gonna feel special. But my advice is move on once again. No one is forcing you to buy it. Take your money and elsewhere. For the rest of us we will enjoy our Land Cruisers all the same no matter the series.
I have a feeling you have a very shallow knowledge on what makes a Land Cruiser a Land Cruiser. Toyota gave you exactly that it’s called the lx600. But I pray you go to another brand because this is borderline insane how much you’re complaining.I would be happy if they brought the 300 GR because it could eventually replace the 200 as a rightful successor. But why downgrade to a 250?
There’s plenty of people who don’t want a Lexus because it’s a Lexus. That’s what made the cruiser so special lol. The absolute best build quality without much regard to cost, and then not much bling factor on the road. And many people really appreciated that.I have a feeling you have a very shallow knowledge on what makes a Land Cruiser a Land Cruiser. Toyota gave you exactly that it’s called the lx600. Like Elon, one of the most wealthy people in the world? What’s your point?the more I read...the dumber I feel.
I'm also grateful that some of these posters don't run large multinational companies...it's be like Elon on speed, mushrooms, acid and Prozac.
You need to take a chill pill?Like Elon, one of the most wealthy people in the world? What’s your point?
Let’s just bring a red herring fallacy into the picture. Why not.
I REALLY REALLY need a super like button option now.I have been out of cell/internet service for a week and was super disappointed to click on this thread tonight and see these disrespectful and uninformed comments. I hate arguing with people on the internet, but it is distasteful to talk about a true legend who works tirelessly for our enthusiast community this way.
To address the video, I am confused if you all watched what I did. What @cruiseroutfit said was clearly not scripted, and that's not really how these things work. Of course the talent (Kurt)/brand/creative/content/producer teams will discuss at a high level what should should be addressed in the video, but they don't give scripts and don't tell the talent what to say. Videos like this are aimed at a wide audience to highlight features and FAQ, not to the extreme enthusiast base who wants to know the minutiae that 99.9999% of consumers don't care about. Not only did the video answer lots of questions for those who are Land Cruiser fans and Land Cruiser curious, but Kurt was extremely well spoken and composed which is not nearly as easy as it looks when cameras and a production crew are all focused on you. The video currently has over 100k views and around 300 comments, basically all of which are glowingly positive.
Auto manufacturers generally do not care about the enthusiast. They care about selling volume and margins, and they recognize the majority of people who buy vehicles will never use them anywhere near their limits. We are extremely fortunate to have someone like Kurt who works hard behind the scenes directly with Toyota, Lexus, and others in the industry to ensure our collective voice is heard and considered in the design of new products. What's funny to me is over the years I kept hearing on the forum they wished for a new Land Cruiser that was: less luxurious with more choice over options, more utilitarian looks, options like a cloth interior and no sunroof, smaller size and lower weight, locking rear diff, offered CarPlay for things like Gaia integration, and was less expensive than the outgoing model. What Toyota is giving us basically checks every box enthusiasts have been asking for, yet on the forum, you'd think the world is ending because "PRADO" isn't a real Land Cruiser. It's beyond baffling and extremely frustrating to hear this refrain from the very community who asked for basically what Toyota delivered.
If you're still reading this far, I wanted to touch on why Kurt is such an incredible asset and advocate for our community. He's too humble to brag on the internet, or in any context for that matter, but he has:
- Traveled all 7 continents in a Land Cruiser as part of Expeditions 7
- Crossed the Greenland ice sheet in a Land Cruiser
- Expedition Overland lead navigator
- Owner / Operator of Cruiser Outfitters
- Board member of Land Cruiser Heritage Museum
- Tread Lightly Master Tread Trainer
- Vice President of I4WDTA
- Race driver for Baja 1000, Mint 400, UROC, and more
- Wasatch Cruiser Club and Expedition Utah leader and mentor
I know there's more I'm missing, but on top of all of this, he's one of the nicest people I have ever met and cares tremendously about our shared passion. Our community should be grateful for people like Kurt and be supportive. It's easy to throw out opinions online without the full context, but Kurt is out there making our off road future better.
How is wanting Toyota to keep and retain the Land Cruisers legendary status having an ego?The fastest way to make more room inside your car it to loose weight and ego. That way you will have more hip room and your head will not bump the headliner.
Ok. I was planning not to say more but chanced my mind. One very simple question:Like Elon, one of the most wealthy people in the world? What’s your point?
Let’s just bring a red herring fallacy into the picture. Why not.
I feel exactly the same, We finally a have a worthy successor to the 80 series; it’s been a long damn wait, but here we are.I can only echo what Kurt @cruiseroutfit said. The 250 for me offers excitement for a new cruiser for the first time since the 80. Can't wait to see what the community does with these in the aftermarket. Just wish they would start delivering them so I can pick mine up.
4Runner yes, Prado no.Ok. I was planning not to say more but chanced my mind. One very simple question:
Have you ever driven and used hard like Land Cruiser hard, a Prado ? Have you owned a Parado for +10 or +20 or +30 years ?
I asked because you seem so certain that the Prado is a piece of s*** not worth the Land Cruiser name for the LC250 (which nobody has even seen or actually used but let's not go there ).
A 45 minute video of me blabbing simply wouldn’t work.
I was thinking the same.Bring it. Many of us would appreciate a good 45 minute blab from you on the new 250 and 550.
Actually here is your job should come. As board of directors or Land Cruiser die hard fan wannabe or whatever you must clarify for the audience that the car is not the Land Cruiser used to be in North America and it is not cheaper you should not let Toyota to use you for there advertisingThis video is aimed at the North America market for North America consumers potentially buying the new North America spec Land Cruiser.
While a seasoned Land Cruiser enthusiast may know the LC250 as a Prado in some other markets, 99.9% of NA buyers will not have any clue what a Prado is. Given the name 'Prado' has never been used on a model in the US/Canada, they are understandably not about to start. As such, it's real name in the US is Land Cruiser, whether you, I, or anyone else likes it. I'll repeat myself, Toyota calls it a Land Cruiser. I don't know that we have the right or hubris to decide what it is or isn't. Turns out they created the name and get a put it on whatever they want, whether we love it or hate it. Early light duty models were called just Land Cruiser in many markets, history repeats itself.
Whether you love it or hate it, it's a Prado at the end, and you know what we call the Land Cruiser 70 in the GCC to make a difference and not get confused.I honestly hate the Prado name and wish they got rid of it all together like how they did for the US and how it has been in many countries.
It really is the only let down...Prado...such a buzzkill of a name.
I know they do it to differentiate it from the big LC, but I think it is already different enough.
