With an OEM three row brass radiator I have roughly 1 7/16 inches from the blades to the core. and a couple credit card thicknesses between the back edge of the blades and the blower belt tensioner pulley.
While I understand what you are doing I think the factory probably adheared to those specs on the initial design
Now we' re at a point where we are modifying that intial design and certain compromizes are made in lieu of completely redesigning the system
The idea is to minimize those modyfications so as to maintain as much of the original performance as possible .
I think the ringed fan was a pathetic attempt at that goal.

ok, so maybe the question we should ask is how close does the orange clutch get the fan to the stock configuration? Maybe someone can post pics of their stock non s/c truck to see how it compares to how the orange clutch with stock fan sits? Just really curious how this clutch will change my configuration as it sits now.
interesting so it sounds like more of the actual fan is outside of the shroud? how much distance do you have from the tip of the blade to the shroud?
to your point though Rick, don't you think we are basically at this point using a custom setup? so general rules applicable to custom shrouds and fans should apply? not trying to be argumentative just trying to learn and assess how the unit will fit.
heres a few pics of the measurements of how the fan sits in my shroud now, this is with 3fe fan and s/c trd setup, blue landtank clutch.
measurements I got are:
tip to shroud, about 2 inches (quite a bit of space)
fan blade thickness was measured to about 2 inches thick, only about 1/2 inch is sitting outside of the shroud.
this makes me think that maybe one could benefit from cutting the OEM shroud a bit to essentially push the fan outside of the shroud some more, about another 1/2 inch?
again, would love to see some detailed pics of the orange unit bolted up with the stock fan if possible, with measurements tip to shroud and fan stickout.

Well, we are already at a custom setup. While this clutch might minimize the displacement of the fan in order to make room for the SC serpentine belt, which effects the fans efficiency. The clutch itself has been augmented by advancing the timing of when it comes on and the oil has been increased to 15k CST from the factory fill of 5k. This is based on a stock blue hub clutch.

no it is not, aluminum, but supposed to be a drop in, and from what I could tell was the same width as the stock one is. I don't think it will effect the shroud deepness or fan to shroud measurements.
I didn't take any pics but it looked to me that the back of the fan blades were outside the shroud by a half inch. Orange hub, stock fan and Koyo aluminum rad
thx Rick, since I don't have a stock 80 to look at, does the stock 80 fan sit close to the stock shroud (tip to shroud)? I have over a 2 inch gap there, seems that here is where your clutch will help alot. Just curious how close the stock fan is to the shroud as it rotates.

this is the ID of the shroud to the OD of the fan, correct?
yes, from the tip of the fan to the shroud, basically how much room there is between where the fan spins and the shroud, too much and it hits the shroud as it spins, too little and not as good of vacuum from what I have read, see the first pic I posted for an example, I have over 2 inches of a gap there.
I'll take a picture tomorrow (I am 1500 miles away from the truck right now)
So I measured 3/4" gap between the tip of the blade and the shroud
