A bit more done today...

Drained and removed the fuel tank. There was a lot of junk under there as it had not been removed since I bought it...

Shop vaced out and cleaned up about 85%... better for now. I ran new rubber EFI hose from the cab to the fuel line. Just waiting to determine how I want to make that connection. Might just use this...

I could certainly have Crown make me some fancy hose but I think this will work just fine.

I ran the 1/4” fuel return line out to the cab as well. There isn’t enough room in the floor to come up into the cab with the supply line so it’s below the cab for now. Might drill a hole in the modified tranny hump under the fuel tank, or might consider making the floorboard hole larger. We’ll see.

Also received the fuel pressure fitting suggested by Erik. I’m waiting on a Schrader valve to install there for now. I can add a gauge later if I like.

I did get a big item checked off the list today. I needed to figure out a bracket for the MAF/Air Cleaner setup. I swapped in a different battery tray when I first bought the 45 (I don’t remember why except that the hold downs aren’t easy to find). It has bolts coming up on the ends rather than the middle and they are really long. I hated how they looked (using lots of washers as spacers) and it’s been on my list to cut them down and re-thread them. Lucky for me I never got to it. The long bolts were perfect for making a bracket to hold the MAF.

First I made a cardboard template...

Made some spacers to replace the washers that would keep the MAF off the battery terminals...

Then dug out a piece of stainless and cut it to size and drilled the battery tray holes and fit tested with the spacers...

Once fit was assured I added the mounting hole for the stock MAF mounting bracket.

The MAF and air cleaner aren’t completely mounted yet, just mocked up. I have to add a vent tube to the MAF adapter for the distributor. Not exactly sure yet how I’m going to do it. May just take it to my welder buddy.

This photo (@73tlcv8) shows what I need to do. I will probably drill into the 3” cone part...

Schrader valve arrived today. This setup would allow me to put a fuel pressure test gauge on the system at the cold start injector for diagnostic purposes. Or remove the Schrader valve and plumb a full time gauge.

My only hesitation is whether it would interfere if I abandoned the metro booster and went with the ABS Power Brake setup.

Installed the bolt/Schrader valve assembly. It sticks out quite a bit but I can always remove it if needed and go back to the OEM bolt.

Installed a 5/16 tube into the MAF adapter for the vent to the distributor. Initial plan was to drill and press fit but there’s not much thickness to the adapter tube so I drilled and used JB Weld on the inside where the flange butted up against the interior of the tube...

Distributor vent lines hooked up. Ran a small engine filter into the cab for now for the small line and the large hose to the fitting I added to the MAF adapter plate.

Sourced some more fuel parts today. A little spendy for some of the fittings for the Bosch fuel filter but I was tired of running around trying to find metric to 5/16.

At the suggestion of Eddie at Crown Performance I just cut the collar off the old damaged OEM hose and used the barb fitting that was underneath for the supply side...

End result...

I had a few issues with leaky clamps on my Ram Jet project a decade ago and eventually just ponied up for all stainless lines. Hoping to avoid that this time around. We’ll see.

Decided to try the NAPA B0001E fuel pump that @c2dfj45 recommended. The MSD’s I’ve used have given me fits. Noisy and left me stranded twice in the FJ40. I had already bought one for this project so I’ll throw it in the 40 for the next fail. I had slid the 5/16 hose on and @cruiserbrett mentioned the fittings looked like the Ford push-on Fittings. So I ordered some adapters to fit these...

Lastly I have been trying to source the right ferrule nut setup for the early gas tank supply fitting. Needed a 12 x 1.5 with 5/16 olive and struck out everywhere local. @Bear confirmed the nut on the carb to the F135 should fit and it does. I’m going to run the nut with a 5/16 hard line through the floor to a hose as both rubber lines (adding 1/4” return) won’t fit. I figure 2 hard lines will.

Also working on a solution for the worn EFI Badge that is no longer available. I bought the last one SOR had so I have a template and can use it if what we’re working on doesn’t fly.

If it turns out like we hope the 60 series guys might be interested.

A little more progress today on the fuel system. Waiting for the push on connectors for the fuel pump but ran the rest of the lines minus the final connector for the 1/4” return line.

I started by adding a Toyota fuel filter inline before the pump. This is from an 84 FJ60 (23300-38010).

Then made a 5/16 hardline stub off the tank using the Toyota Ferrule nut (90402-13041) and olive (96395-71400). Thanks to @tlc762 for posting the part numbers...

Next made a hardline for the 1/4” fuel return to pass through the floor as 2 hoses wouldn’t fit...

Fuel return and supply in the cab ready to connect...

Push on fittings should arrive today so the fuel system should be complete except for the return line connection at the tank.

In the meantime I received the accelerator cable from overseas...

And started on the booster bracket. I’m still not sure I want to pony up for the slick electric brake booster so I’m going to see what I can come up with. Decided to start but cutting up the old bracket so I have the firewall and booster ends already done...

Next up will be cleaning them up and then measuring and cutting the sides and a top/bottom plate to house the pivot shaft.

Great progress!

That fuel filter wouldn’t survive in the sagebrush/wheatgrass/skeleton weed areas that I drive in that location below the frame, though. :meh:

It will be attached up and out of the way a little better than this but I’ll definitely keep an eye on it.

I have a second large metal filter and frame mount if I decide to go that way later.

What application is that accelerator cable for? Will it directly fit a FJ62? :)

dom I have extra fj62 parts you are welcome to if you want them, I have no use for them, I think I have a maf, our buddy (can't remember his name?) with the diesel fj40 we met at your house gave me a bunch of free fj62 stuff, swing over when you get a chance, I also have one of those inline fuel pumps, stuff I gotta get rid of really.....

Make sure you have a good vent on that tank, the 3FE recycles quite a bit of fuel back to the tank. I had gas running down the side of my truck on my first wheeling trip, the stock system was clogged. Had to make my cap vented on the trail :hillbilly:

I’m not familiar with the FJ62 setup so I couldn’t say. I don’t think it will.

I bought it because the ends match the 3FE on one side and an FJ40 pedal (73 in my case) in the other side. It’s from a BJ40 I think.

Thanks Tucker. I decided to have a 1/4” return line added to my fuel tank.

Thanks! I'll look into that more. Also, interested to see what you come up with for the EFI intake badge ;)
