Routed the wires for power and the camera thru the body of the mirror....as clean as I could get them. I'll zip tie the cables together. I lucked out with the wiring.....I was able to snake the power wire for the mirror thru the left A-pillar....my fuse box is on this side so easy to tap into it. The camera goes on the passenger side....above the headliner, down the back corner of the cab thru the floor and back along the frame.

Rear view....

Front view....this is always recording....the rear does not record.

There's a split screen for front and rear....

This screen allows you to play back and delete recordings....

While the roof console was out, I mounted the Switch Pros controller to it and more importantly, ran the bundle of wires from the controller to the power unit under the hood. Got lucky again and found a way to get it thru the passenger side A-pillar.......made it really easy. The cable is kind of bulky for the controller....I figured we'd just cut the 4 wires and run some new ones. Glad I didn't....turns out their cable is some kind of shielded cable of some sorts. Originally I was going to run it on top of the headliner, down the back of the cab, out the floor, back up the frame to the engine compartment which would have required a new cable from Switch Pros....17' of custom cable but going thru the A-pillar let me use the stock 10' cable. Glad I spent some time getting the wire down the A-pillar. There must be a very small hole in it.

Double stick taped it to the vinyl.....just in case I hate it here I can move it.

Camera cable got routed thru the swingarm last week. Turned out to be a challenge due to the size of the plug and the angles we had to get it to go to get out of the arm. I should have run it on the outside of the swingarm but it sure is clean looking with it inside.

Took a few tries to get this the way I wanted but this version I like. The shop youngster used the TIG for the first time on a project which I think is great. We'll powdercoat this thing next batch we run.....he'll need to clean his weld up a little too :)

Did you ever find a anti-glare cover? Have you tried the new mirror while driving?
I've driven the truck a couple of times.....the glare wasn't really a problem for me. The rear window is where the problem is coming from....I think it has something to do with how vertical that window is in these trucks. If it's a problem, I'll play around with blacking out the back cab windows....I think that would solve the issue. That will be low on my priority list.

Interesting, thanks

Interesting, thanks
In the Maltec 200 truck we had here, the mirror was super crisp.....zero reflection or glare. I realized that it had a black headliner and there was no rear window/glass...just the rear open camper area that was dark.

From who did you source the 79-Series ARB to modify?

ARB USA in Jacksonville had it. Commercial bar. Pretty sure both of the bars I ordered were in inventory but I think that was pre Covid so who knows what they have now.

Did you ever decide on a paint color for the Troopy?

Perfect! Thanks Chris! I'll send out some emails this weekend.

I'm down to two colors. Sandy Taupe or that Porsche Chalk.
On the floor, Porsche caulk looks amazing. I swung by a few dealers. It's a phenomenal color. It has amazing depth all while being a bit being flat. It's wild. I really love the color. The only issue is touch-up.
Sandy Taupe over black looks so great but it's soooo boring and it's very common.
70-Series White isn't an option. I love it. I respect it. But for what it's going on, it won't fit.

I'm thinking Sandy Taupe though.... ****. Maybe not..... I don't know.... It might be a surprise to both of us...

Porsche Chalk.....don't overthink the touchup. If you don't do it, I will :)

Haven't had the truck in the main shop for a bit......getting some parts in here and there for it so when it does come in we can get to work.

I had bought an Eclipse Turbo split pulse intake that was for sale on Mud. Had it thermal coated to match the other stuff we had done.....Glacier Gold Titanium is the color. Learning a lot about the coatings that the place we're using offers. Pretty impressive.

Cast stainless....this thing is HEAVY.

Cast stainless?!?! Nutty
Apparently it's very good at containing the heat. I had asked them if I could make provisions to reuse the factory heat shielding......they said no need to due to the properties of cast stainless. Guess we'll see once it's bolted on.

Camper truck made the pilgrimage from the storage warehouse to the workshop today....I've got a big list of stuff for the guys to do it. Stuff I wanted to alter, stuff I wanted to add. Stuff I needed to fix. Had a long time to think about this stuff AND buy it :)

We got to it today on the Wholesale Automatics Nomad valve body. Highly recommended by everyone that has one installed. Took a seriously long time to get....5 months I think. Yikes. We had yanked out a valve body from a spare A442 I have....it had cruise control...the trans in the camper truck didn't have it. Cruise is confusing on these trucks.....and apparently not many of the fully hydro A442s had cruise control. I can't figure out how it works and it really is a moot point as we use an aftermarket cruise on both trucks. In any event, I sent Wholesale Automatics a cruise valve body....and I didn't get one back. Didn't get a selector shaft back either. Working thru that with them.

Here's that super cool box again.....and the magic thing inside the transmission.

Old piece of wizardry......

This valve comes out....Wholesale Automatic includes a new red spring to put in place of the blue one. Stiffer spring.

This anti-rattle clip was removed per the instructions supplied. Seems weird to take a part like this out. Everything in an automatic transmission is weird to me. Been around this stuff for a long time and very rarely have ever had to do anything to an auto. Swapped a few out. Swapped on in for a manual once on a 64 Corvette. :(

Valve body out....sure looks simple but it's not.

20210816_111630.jpg

Took 2 of us to get it in.....needed to make sure the springs and cups stayed in place AND the kick down cable got installed. Challenging.....and the ATF bath was a bonus.

New filter installed, cleaned up the pan, sprayed it, topped it off....tomorrow we drive.

Here's what the Nomad valve body does if anyone is interested:

The extreme valve body is touted to give you greater clamping pressure for the clutch packs and torque convertor lock up, quicker shifts, and greater flow to the cooler. But the big advantage of these units is that they give you torque convertor lock-up in 3rd gear (when above the same road speed as for OD lock-up) so that you can take steep hills and tow on the highway with more umph and less heat generation (from the torque convertor).

This was an excellent write up on the process if anyone needs it: Extreme Valve Body - just installed - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/extreme-valve-body-just-installed.222189/

Glad to see an update. We’ve been sorely lacking any 79 Series activity. 😊

Sweet. need to get a ride in this one Chris. 😎

Well I have a LONG list of stuff to do. And quite a few 79s to build :)
