Picked up this old guy a few weeks back. 1959 FJ25. Neat piece of Land Cruiser history. Makes an FJ40 seem like a Cadillac and a 70 series seem like a Rolls Royce. Tough old truck. Not sure what I'll do with it....take care of it of a bit, collect some impossible to find parts...putt around in it. I like it.

I didn’t know it was possible for one of your rides to have an oil leak.

I had just washed it.....it looks like a massive leak...I would have had a heart attack if that much oil got laid down on all that beautiful concrete. I protect it as if it was a child. Lol. Wish I could say it was dry under the 25 but it's not.....that little truck leaks A LOT. Most all of it's fluids I believe. You've seen the crankcase vents on old motors, right? :)

Well “chop - chop”. 😊
Going to make a big push so we're not doing things last minute before the 70s event. I'd like to do about 500-600 miles on the truck before we head up there. Make sure everything we're adding is playing nice.

@c2dfj45 where is the build thread for the FTE?
I've got a couple builds in front of the one that the FTE will go in......right now I'm in collection mode. Have to suck it up now and buy the Compushift controller for the A750.

Wholesale Auto A750? Behind the FTE? That seems pretty popular setup.
Nah.....my motor came with a stock A750....so I'm just going to use that but I'll control it with the Compushift. Still need to navigate thru all that stuff.

Working on getting an ECU now for it....they are 6 weeks out in AUS and super expensive but going direct thru Japan seems to be a challenge....they don't want to sell it. Seeing if Dave at Japan 4x4 can't get it for me. I had my harness built for the HDJ79 ecu and not the HDJ100....so no immobilizer and all of that. Fingers crossed it all works. Pretty sure it should.

Are they not generally interchangeable? Mine will run with either a 79 or 100 ECU. The main difference being the stock 100 would have had the immobilizer and cruise while the 79 had neither. We deleted the immobilizer function on the 100 anyway and have the 79 for backup.

Interchangeable as far as I know. Immobilizer is the big deal on the 100.....I believe it's tuned differently too as it had an intercooler. The 79 was pretty basic.

But if you had your immobilizer tuned out, then you're in good shape with that 100 ECU.

Yep got it. I thought you meant there was something about your harness - beyond the immobilizer issue.

I do know I had to tell him what ECU I was running.....100 or 79. So maybe there is a difference in plugs? I'll ask....would be interesting to know. I had to get a throttle pedal and harness as well since it's all fly by wire. Should be about it.

We deleted EGR and the soft shut down on my motor too. I wanted a bare bones harness.

Beautiful piece of work from Mick....kind of weird to buy one when my guy's harness work is on par with this. Easier though to buy one from a guy that just does FTE work....plus I didn't have a full harness on my motor to pick thru.

I'm going to give this Glind water heater a try. Neat piece and they seem to get good reviews. Pricey piece.

A little tricky to install because you've got to manage hoses and their routing. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically. My engine compartment has become increasingly crowded. We chose a firewall spot....seems like it will work.

The exchanger came with a weak piece of aluminum for a mount...we made a new one. I also authorized the drilling of two holes thru the firewall flange. We never drill holes if we can use some stock ones but this would have been a stretch.

The engine's coolant flow thru the unit needs to be opposite of the flow of the supply water so we will take coolant from the block where it leads to the heater valve, put that thru our exchanger, then out of the exchanger into the heater valve.....SO......if you want heated water, the truck will need to be up to operating temp obviously with the heater valve open....circulating heated coolant thru the exchanger(and heater in the cab). There are many ways to plumb these things....this is the easiest....ideally I'd like a 5 gallon tank that would recirc heated water thru it(supplied from the main tank)...but that would require way too much plumbing and valves and all kinds of stuff. I just want some warm water....for now at least.

Mounted.....clears the motor, clears the hood.

3/8" silicone hose in red for heated water, blue for cold supply. We'll have to run these to the rear pump area. Lots of work to put 20' of hose, x2, under the truck but we have a good path. And lots of zip ties :)

I wanted to pass them down the drivers side even though the water pump for the tank is on the passenger side....that exhaust manifold area on the right side has too much heat around it. May end up doing a heat shield for the hoses on the right side....we'll see.

1/2" coolant tubing thru the unit....1/2" silicone hose for this....pretty easy to route the heater line in and then back out.

This is where those fancy silicone hoses are headed.

This is the pump's home behind the rear wheel well area......we will be taking the feed into the pump off and connect that into the blue line....red goes onto the filter and into the pump. Going to use some 6AN bulkhead fittings and some 90* 3/8 barbed fittings to clean up the pass thru of the lines. Hate to drill into the bed for bulkheads but I'll get over it when I'm taking a hot shower....well a warm shower.....hopefully :)

Mostly finished.....need to add some clamps to the supply in and out lines. Turned out pretty well I think. 4 holes drilled though :( not happy about that.

Rear AN bulkhead fittings installed

Lines secured to each other than secured to the OEM fuel/brake line clamps. Certainly not the way I prefer to mount things but this will work for now....I would have rather attached them to the body up high.

Almost final setup and hose routing. Pretty clean for a crap ton of hoses. I think we were going to make a couple of little adjustments once the clamps go on. This should fit as it is once the top mount intercooler goes on.....some day.

All you have to do is put a bucket of water in the afternoon Florida sun and it will be plenty warm. 😊

What if I'm far away from the FL sun :)
