Tomorrow we burn these puppies in and move on to the next phase....drilling out some holes and painting the bare metal areas.

Chris-

What are you guys using to drill that size plate? Drill press? Bit type?

Thanks.

Sometimes we use our drill press but usually we just work our way up with stepped bits and lots of lube...these were done with a 18v Makita drill.

I bought a set of stepped drill bits at Northern Tool for a project at my house 4 years ago.......there was a huge one in it that I needed for whatever reason. I have not been able to kill those bits and I'm a pro at killing drill bits. I'm sure they are on their last legs(steps?) now but they have been great. It would be shocking to know how much material these have drilled thru. I think we've killed 2 Makita drills in the time we've had these. Ha.

All done with the bumper. I'm glad I don't count the hours we spend on things when it comes to my projects. Too many hours.

We'll leave the bumper off for a few days....installing a few things under the hood and working around the bar is a pain.

Apparently nobody read this warning sticker....oops.

Sanded and primed the Master Series paint....I brushed it on and it left a lot of brush marks(it was far too thick) but no biggie since we were going to be spraying in some Raptor.

Raptor liner sprayed in once the primer dried. I love this stuff. Fine texture like we normally shoot. Couldn't be an easier product to use.

I like this pic because the Troopy is in it :) I blocked the M3 out with the bumper so all the attention was on the Troopy!

Had the wheels sent out for powdercoating.....the paint on these steel wheels almost immediately fades out...drives me crazy. No fading with the textured black powder. It's a great finish....has a cool sheen to it. The bull bar may go texture black at some point....or white

What size tire are you putting on those?

Need to think about this for a second.....I have 4 sets of these wheels floating around on the trucks. These are FJ Cruiser spares...so 17x7.5. We are running the 285/75/17 Hercules on them.

It's not just you - those Northern step bits are amazing. I'm drilled hundreds of holes in medium-duty truck frames (5/16" thick) on the same step bit with no signs of slowing down

They just don't stop. My bits are usually the community bits too so they really get beat on. I would think they would last a lifetime for the normal user.

I ordered another set today :)

@c2dfj45 it never occurred to me the work that goes into putting the 79 series bumper on the 80 series frame. That’s good work. So bumper/wheels/tires all mounted up?

Wheels and tires on, bumper done but getting something special done to it.

It's a ton of work to make that bumper fit but I'm also a little more particular about how I want it. Plus there will be a 12k pound winch mounted up to it so I kind of wanted it pretty strong :)

Definitely understand that. Looking forward to the finished photos.

Hopefully it will be on there soon. Ready to drive this truck.

It's the exact same setup that is on the #2 truck.

This will be pretty cool I think. It's one part of a future project but the pretty part of that project.
