Also, who has portable compressors? What are you bringing/ what do you recommend? I have 35x12". An $80 viair is tempting, but if it is going to burn up on the first trip...

I can't remember my brand, but have a 12v as well. The 4Runner with its 33's and IFS REALLY needed to be around 22 psi to be pleasant. We tried normal 32 and then like 27 and it was rough for us in the car :)

I'll have my Co2 setup with me. From full, I've used it to fill two 39.5" tires from 0 to 7.5# of pressure, so there's still plenty of air to go around :D

@GLTHFJ60 just go ahead and put me on the waiting list...I know there's like 4 other people on there, but ya never know. If not I'll get in on one of the trips later in the summer.

Done! If your name comes up for this trip I'll have you sign up for membership :cheers:

I carry a MV50 in the back of the Cruiser. I normally run 42psi but will air down between 25 and 30.

I was playing in the area last weekend since I never got off the wait list....

Round Mtn campground was rocked awake at 4:15am with gunshots, no one hurt, but someone rolled into camp and unloaded two guns- story here - May 29, 2016 (the gun fire story)

Hurricane Creek Rd was awesome!

Jesus! That's a hell of a story.

Also just FYI - the campground has no water - it was funny, we were originally going to the Core Banks, so Friday before I leave, I pulled 15 gallons of water out of the truck....

Wow, amazing story. Is it my imagination or does it seem like the idiot population is growing rapidly?

It really amazes me how careless some folks are with firearms. I guess it is the age I was raised in, guns were not such a cultural issue. Only thugs in the inner cities went around brandishing guns, yet there were pickups with rifles and shotguns on the gun racks all over the place.

Guns are not the problem, how we deal with them is the problem. I've been around firearms all my life, never once have I pointed one at anyone nor have I discharged one in an unsafe manner. There are no dead road signs with my name on them.

Holy crap Jay!! Think we need to be equipped with a "defensive strategy" this year or think that was a fluke?

Since we're getting close now, let's confirm who's going. Please post up here confirming that you are indeed ready and 100% committed to this trip, which starts on June 24th. This means that we will meet regionally, caravan and group up at Sierra Nevada on Friday, June 24th for a late lunch, so that we can get out into the woods. Here is the tentative schedule:

June 24th
- Meet at Sierra Nevada Taproom in Mills River, NC @ 2:00pm (negotiable)
- Eat lunch, re-up on Sierra Nevada growlers
- Drive out to the rest stop on 40 just before HC to confirm strategy for exiting the highway SAFELY
- Duck into the woods, drive a few trails, set up camp

June 25th
- Wake up around 9?
- Decide where to head:
Max Patch
Waterfalls
(open to suggestions)
- Explore the area
- Find and set up camp relatively early

June 26th
- Pack up, head home!

Once again, post if you're on this list, post up that you are 100% committed. We have a wait list.

1. Johnny C - @GLTHFJ60
2. Joe M - @little_joe
3. Marshall S - @Trollhole
4. Andrew H - @AndrewHadji
5. Jason D - @slceso
6. Steve E - @aquatech3
7. Nick T - @Tuite
8. Jamie B - @weejub
9. Jonathan J - @lumbee1

Thank you!!

Johnny - total fluke! I was not concerned at all sleeping there the next night! If you have to stay in a campground, this is a favorite! Y'all have fun!

We stayed at the top of Wolf Creek falls (i think that is the one, @Izzyandsue will correct if wrong) the first night, aside from the weird couple that showed at dusk it was pretty private. No bathrooms!

@GLTHFJ60 I am 100% committed and will meet with the group. I'll likely go out to Black Mtn NFS campground Thursday for some (very) light hiking, waterfalls, etc; then be at lunch on Friday.

The family and I are committed. My truck.... well let's hope the TPS, PCV, and cleaning the TB fixes the crazy idle situation. TPS is coming sometime next week. If that doesn't work then it might be the IAC which for such a small part, is very expensive. I have the FSM for testing the IAC with 12V before I buy a new one.

TPS = throttle position sensor
PCV = positive crankcase ventilation
TB = throttle body
IAC = idle air control
