Show us the Chevy... :bounce:

You are going to LOVE the Pioneer head unit. A modern headunit is a must in these old trucks.

Looks nice. Check your tire pressure and remeasure and bring the drivers side down the 1/4" to match the other side and you'll need an alignment or you will start to scrub your tires.

Looks good man, keep up the good work.

Pic of the 57 on first post.

I agree... I had a jumble of wires including having to dig up my old cassette to 3.5mm input.

I am going to re-index the T Bars so I can get a proper 1” rake. Right now it is closer to 1-1/2”-2” and the T Bars are maxed. At that point I will fine tune it. It was sitting lower on the front driver corner for so long, I guess the rear passenger spring has less fatigue than the rear driver (not sure if that is true, just guessing).

I will def get an alignment after re-index and a little settling.

This center console is looking great as it comes together (don't mind the finger prints or wet console pocket)

Also whipped out the PlastiDip Anthracite Grey and shot the chrome emblems

Nice, I have found that 1/2" of rake makes my cruiser happy. I don't think they need anymore than that but YMMV

Wow my plastic is looking pretty nasty, along with my gear indicators...may need to follow your lead on this...

There is a coating over the plastic. You think it is just plastic but it is not... It is not a paint coating, almost a melamine style spray coating. Make sure to prime it with a plastic primer. I used Semi Gloss Caliper paint for the final coat due to the scratch and chemical resistance. I think regular Paints will not hold up to the abuse that area takes. I will wax it before final assembly.

It really looks brand new now.

Man you really did a great job on refinishing the center console. I know what you mean by regular paints not holding up, I tried refinishing mine and a mix of careless prep work + regular spray paint has left it easily scratched and a magnet for dust. I will definitely be looking into redoing it similar to the methods you used.

Yes, there are 2 clips on the bottom, two on top. You can pull the back out enough to reach the end of the hook that has a little tab on it. You need to push that tab down to unhook it from the wire. Once unhooked, the other side is easy due to access. Unhook both of the top hooks and pull up and it’s out.

Just took the seat backers off today...thanks for the tip!

Last night around 9pm I decided to start swapping the MFD (Multi Function Display) (Stereo/ NAV/ AC controls) out for the standard 3 Knob AC and be able to put in a standard stereo with all the updates (Bluetooth, a USB port, Pandora, IHeartRadio, Waze, hands free calling, and a back up camera)

I had already pulled the NAV DVD unit under the seat when the seat was out and ordered most the parts including a 3 knob ac control panel from eBay. I messaged the seller and asked if he would cut the wires and he kindly did.

I have been reading up on this thread for the last couple of weeks and figured I had a grasp on it:
Pre-03 nav delete how-to

So I pulled the MFD:

The hardest part was cutting that first wire but after a few wires put together it started flowing nicely. Those Sopoby wire connectors are awesome. I ended up using a butane lighter as it was easier than the heat gun and was more precise. I kept rearranging the wires to better group them.

I put blue tape at the bottom edge to keep small scratches down. Just grouping wires...

After about three or so hours after the first cut I was done... so I plugged it in and everything worked... wow...

Then I went to turn off the key and noticed the AC blower fan was still blowing... well that’s not good. I rechecked all the wires and connections then posted in the Thread above (Pre 03 NAV Delete How to) around 1-1:30am and went to bed...

Next morning, I saw TXSunDevil replied. This guy is amazing... he spent 3+ hours diagnosing, tracing, checking voltages, retracing and hunting for the wire demons... he even went to work to pick up his Factory Wiring Diagram...

TXSUNDEVIL- Thank You Very Much.

If they made a IH8MUD award he would win it.

After much chasing he asked me to cycle my ignition to hear the AC compressor relay come on... I did several timescycling between OFF and ACC... on the last time I didn’t here the click... either I broke everything or it was fixed... guess what?

A relay had stuck in the dash...

Everything worked just as it should... so tidied up the wiring. The brown wrapped wires and plugs are not used (except the dual antenna connections) the cluster closest are the connectors used..

I wired up the stereo harness and checked if everything fit and it does... I am still waiting for my AMp Bypass harness to get sound but everything works great:

If I did not say it enough... Thanks again TXSunDevil!

Looks great bud!! Glad you could get it up and running. Your install looks much cleaner than mine did. You were able to group your wires better. You can always peel the wood grain off to match your shiny new shifter area. Keep up the good work!!

Which amp bypass harness are you waiting on? link?

I just got it today... Metra 70-8116

I got mine from eBay for around $30. Amazon, eBay, Crutchfield, Sonic Electronix all carry it. It is specifically made for a few Toyota models including my 2002 LC.

Yikes, all those wires will haunt my dreams tonight. Nice job.

Thanks. It's actually not as bad as it looks... That first wire took a while to cut though.. Ha ha...

Not much has happened except installing the Metra Amp Bypass kit which made the speakers work.

I had the reinstall the old NAV DVD player under the seat to get the front driver speakers to work again.

I installed the backup camera and got it working manually but have not searched for the reverse switch yet. I ordered the Factory wiring manual and will find my tap then.

I started temporarily putting things back together. And it really looks great.

... the sound is amazing too.

I still can’t figure out how to get the sub working with the amp bypass?????

Buuuuuuut............
Wife says she wants to drive it to Easter!

I have left:
Change all fluids
New plugs
Fuel filter
Small AC leak from Evap Core (Core, Dryer, Exp Valve, also got that new packing)
Install Cabin Filter parts to put in Cabin Filter where there was not one
Brake lines
Brake pads
Reindex TBs (maybe)
Poly steering rack bushings
New sway bar bushings
Check front bearings (repack/ retighten)
I think that’s it...

I guess I will have to put this into retirement (again).

So I got the stickers back from my brother.
View attachment 1656507
He sent me 5 different fonts; Land Cruiser emblem script, Arial Bold Italic, the Factory Font, Helvectica, and Playbill. I like the Playbill one so I used that.
I started by removing the decal area by soaking it in Purple Power for a couple hours and scrubbing with a toothbrush and wet sanding it with 1000 grit then polishing the whole piece.
View attachment 1656508

Then I removed the vinyl sticker and used the alignment marks my brother made to line up with the bottom of the original decal and stuck it on.

What are the chances your brother could make a couple more sets? Or even, could he give us the vector files that I could get someone else to print them for me? I would LOVE to redo my peeling, gross looking drive selector :)

Yessir, in the Sharpstown neighborhood (at least the fella I talked to). Thanks.
You talked to them? I sent them several interior items to recover. It's been months and they have quit answering emails. I written them off as a loss by now.

Anyways Nice build, keep up the good work. Following.

You lose sub with amp bypass. I’ll post pics tomorrow of what wires to jump where the nav was

Dude this might be one of the best 100 resto jobs especially considering how bad that interior was before. Keep it up!

While it is not perfect, it does look a million times better... these are vinyl stickers so there is a little shrinkage. We are working on making something better right now to possibly sell.

I never actually talked to them only email. I will say I was a little worried for a couple days after not hearing from them. They did come thru rather quickly. I am sorry to hear about your experience. I did not think they did the work though, just selling items. I asked them about seat cover for my 57 and they said send the old ones and they would discount and copy the pattern.

Cool thanks. I also noticed I lost the driver front speaker when I pulled the NAV DVD so I had to put that back in.

I appreciate it but I think 2000LC (?) wins that award although I do see he is a big fan of Marine Grease and so am I.

Today I knocked out the Whiteline Poly Steering Rack Bushings... all went well until I lost one of the small bushing nuts... I spent two hours looking for it and never found it. Luckily, the upper shock mounting nuts are the same thread pitch so I used one of those.

I had to make a little tool out of some 5/8” allthread I had laying around and some big washers to squeeze the bushings in that made it really easy.

All of the wandering at freeway speed is gone and it is a noticeable difference at slow speeds as it no longer feels mushy.

Oh yeah... the VSC BEEPING IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!! (and the old bushings did not even look that bad...

Happy Easter,

Here is the photo for the wires you will need to jump. N2 is the plug for the nav. That is where you will make your new joints. It looks like I cut the picture off but the pink and purple wires are what power the driver's side front speakers. You just tie them together to take the place of the nav unit.
