thats really ahndy- thank you. Where do you enable unicode? in techstream? are you using the international versoin of techstream?not sure if you ever figured this out, but with the JDM models if you want techstream to work properly, you have to change your local PC region to japan and enable unicode. otherwise most of the boxes appear blank

1) Does it have to be VirtualBox or will VMWare Fusion work?Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.
Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II / Mini-VCI interface.
- I have sold out of my cables and supply chains are back in order, so no reason to purchase more. Anything like this will work: Mini-VCI cable on eBay
Step 2: Download Hypervisor
Step 3: Install Software You Just Downloaded
- Windows / Intel Mac [Download Virtualbox]
- Apple M1/2 Mac [Download UTM]
- Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
- MacOS:
- Intel Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer
- M1/M2 Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, drag to Applications folder
Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- Windows / Intel Mac: LINK
- M1/M2 Mac: LINK
Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.
Connect & Enjoy.

Edit (04/08/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.
Edit (02/28/21): Updated links to new versions of Virtualbox & new link to cheap Mini-VCI cable
Edit (10/30/22): M1 Compatible workflow / updated virtualbox links
I'm not sure on any of those questions, but you may have issues connecting to both of those vehicles with one TS setup with that much difference between year models. Maybe im incorrect with my thinking though.1) Does it have to be VirtualBox or will VMWare Fusion work?
2) Do I need to use UTM with an M3 chip?
3) Will this work for programming keys?
Asking for 2 vehicles: 2003 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V8 and 2026 Toyota Prius Plugin Hybrid XSE
on my 2001 LC there's only 5 systems accessible, and only those 5 appear available to select. I'm thinking all these here with *asterisks are systems not available to techstream for your 2000 year model. Notice at top where it says white w/asterisk = ecu not supported or not responding.I read that techsream can actuate the CDL on my 2000 lc100. I seem to have access to very few systems though:

Where would I usually find the CDL actuator?
edit;
also everything on customize function screen is empty when i click into the options
Yeah, at the time I thought that maybe they were there (specifically the all wheel drive one) but my PC wasn't picking it up since it's a japanese car. Hi, are Mini VCI cables backwards compatible? I have Techstream v12.20.024 and found a cable with v18. Will the generic ones found on eBay work? 2006 Lexus LS430.
Thanks.
Thanks for the info and quick response!Mine is for v18 and I can run v15 and v13 on it.
I'm sure the answer isn't 100% true in all situations though
edit:
v17 works too, im using this vci:
No problemThanks for the info and quick response!
I've actually observed the opposite. I upgraded sequentially through the versions (v7 → v10 → v12 → ... → v18), and with each upgrade I noticed additional features being added rather than removed. (BTW, if someone needs a Win7 VM with v18 or older versions, let me know)Off topic but just not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread- older versions are better in some cases. There are many options that don't show up for me on v18 that show on v15
It might just be a compatibility issue with my vehicle being Japanese then, not sureI've actually observed the opposite. What I still can't explain is why some vehicles don't report their VIN when Techstream performs the initial connection. This happened to me with a cheap MVCI clone on a 2021 RAV4. As soon as I switched to a VCX Nano, everything worked as expected—the VIN, model, and engine were detected automatically.
The last vehicle I connected to was a 2010 RX450h, and I had to select everything manually. I have no idea why the VIN wasn't detected. My only guess is that the ECU may have been replaced and never updated with the vehicle's VIN.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
The recommendation is correct—Techstream will work with both vehicles. I wouldn't recommend the Mini-VCI. I own one, and in my experience it's mostly limited to basic diagnostics. While firmware 2.0.4 is generally considered the best version, about 99% of the clones on the market actually come with firmware 1.4.1.Hi guys, couple of quick questions. I've got a 2005 LX470 and a 2021 Toyota Corolla. Can I get an adapter and Techstream software that will work with both? Gemini is telling me that this adapter is the correct one: "Mini-VCI J2534 with Firmware v2.0.4" Is this true?

I switched to a VCX Nano and it has been able to do everything I've needed with Techstream and my 2021 RAV4.
Take a look through the previous pages of this thread for other recommendations. I'm not an expert, so I'd rather not recommend a specific seller or brand beyond sharing my own experience.
@mvrx thanks for the info. Can you please confirm that the VCX Nano works with both your Lexus/Toyota Series 100 and your RAV4? Or do you use two different devices? And did you buy it from AliExpress or otherwise what are your recommendations on the best place(s) to buy this device? The recommendation is correct—Techstream will work with both vehicles.
