With some trepidation I went ahead and tried all this.
I obtained this cable from Amazon:
Then I followed these instructions precisely:

Per the video, I used the downloads provided in post 1 of this thread. I did not use the disc that came with the cable. It is allegedly v17 and v18 zipped for 64bit machines. (There are some reports it contains Malware.)
I installed the VM and V12 from the links on an older Windows 10 laptop with an older intel i5-3317U 1.7ghz processor and just 6 gig or RAM.
It actually worked the first time on my 2000 UZJ-100 with no issues. I discovered a C1224 Code and cleared it then ran the Health Check again and the code did not reappear. (I will check it again after some driving.)

Anyway, I did not have any issues which is strange. I usually have terrible luck with this kind of stuff.

Hey guys! Thanks for this write up. Very helpful. I got Techstream installed. Two questions, this version is 12.20.024, will this version read my 2022 GX 460? Also, my issue is with the key fobs and the feedback tone. The key fobs no longer work. They randomly just stopped working after I was making changes in the vehicle customization settings in my GX. Prior to this, I have never connected to the vehicle for any reason. No mods. The remotes simply no longer work. Also, the entry and lock audibe beep sound no longer works either. The only way I can get into the car is to touch the drivers door handle. I was hoping to use Techstream to connect to my GX and reinitialize the keyless system. Does anyone know where I would go in Techstream to do this?

Thanks a lot for the VM.
I had the "Unable to connect to VIM" and this post helped me : How-To: TechStream In 5 Minutes - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/how-to-techstream-in-5-minutes.1034923/page-68#post-15717311

I had 3 keys :
- One paired to my car.
- One paired to another car, that the dealer accidentally gave me.
- One $25 Chinese key: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256...t_main.10.41ba1802NZiZ0u&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa

I was able to add the Chinese key successfully.
However I would like to delete that second key that I don't own.
I discovered that it required deleting all previous key, but a master key.
Now, if I do that, I guess that the Chinese key that I just paired will become useless and that I won't be able to pair it again, exact?

I also imagine that there's no way I could delete the memory of that "other car" key?

Thanks.

Additionally, it seems used key can be erased according to that PDF : https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10149214-9999.pdf

Using this option :

This is Techstream V10 on the capture and I use V17 on a Lexus GX 460.

And here’s what I get, the "smart key function" option is missing:

Would be interested in learning more about your experience with 'erase'. I successfully paired an OEM key that I bought recently but I'm struggling with the smart key card that came with my truck but never worked. I go through the first step with a working key, then get the beep on the smart key card, but a third step instructs me to put the key on the passenger seat and gives me 30 seconds. This step times out...weird.

Hello,
I have tried to use the Intel based version on my Mac Air . I have sucessfully enabled Techstream, but have noticed that the License code is tied to the US version of the Softare.
Due to the fact that I need the EU variant the system asks for a suitable license for EU config. Can anybody help me with a license code?
Thank you.
Regards
Matthias

Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.

Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II / Mini-VCI interface.
- I have sold out of my cables and supply chains are back in order, so no reason to purchase more. Anything like this will work: Mini-VCI cable on eBay

Step 2: Download Hypervisor
Step 3: Install Software You Just Downloaded
  • Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
  • MacOS:
    • Intel Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer
    • M1/M2 Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, drag to Applications folder

Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- Windows / Intel Mac: LINK
- M1/M2 Mac: LINK

Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.

Connect & Enjoy.

:santa:

Edit (04/08/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.
Edit (02/28/21): Updated links to new versions of Virtualbox & new link to cheap Mini-VCI cable
Edit (10/30/22): M1 Compatible workflow / updated virtualbox links

Appreciate the dedication—changed my hardware and I'm back up and running in like 30 seconds, right from the first post.

Thanks a lot for the VM.

When you downloaded it and set it up in your VM you should have gotten a little program that creates a code for you. Look at this video at about the 6 minute mark.

Need the key for registration
ID: 88EEC24ED87A30BCDCDB0FE065AA5F05
Version: 18.00.008

Thanks in advance.

I tried the mac M2 VM for this, and while I got it to work (needed to wind the date back for the license to work), I think the x86 emulation crawls too much so the update rates in Techstream are not helpful for logging. I think this needs an x86 machine so I'm going to try a windows machine instead, looking forward to testing it out.

Darn: I dont have an x86 laptop. I tried running the VM on my AMD laptop and it just crashes immediately on start up, virtual box status is "aborted"
Anyone got this going on an AMD laptop? Any clues what I'm missing? I have a bad feeling its the architecture.

I run techstream directly on a Windows 11 machine with an AMD processor. No need to run it in a VM.

Oh so you need to buy their hardware like the WIFI Version VXDIAG VCX NANO ?
I already have hardware. if anyone can share a link to download techstream and install it on the metal I'd really appreciate it.

Well maybe. Yes I did buy their hardware. Not sure if anyone has used other hardware with their setup. I assume techstream is techstream - the trick should be getting your hardware recognized on a Win 11 AMD computer.

@arrivederci , I asked vxdiag if their devices supported running active tests to do things like turn on the fuel pump and they said: "Hello
Sorry, but our device cannot support the function you mentioned."
Is anyone here able to do fuel flow tests by triggering active tests with the fuel pump in techstream here?
I'm guessing the bug/crash I encountered with my mini VCI adaptor is actually going to be a common limitation and that many tools out there aren't performing bidirectional control. So they can't do things like the dynamic compression test either.

Wjhat is a reason for an "aborted" indication in VM? I double-click on the TS after the download and I see Win XP starting to appear only to disapear few seconds later. The VM window shows ABORTED.

(I do suffer from small disc space in the current laptop)
