Amazing what the different lightfall can do with that shiny paint. On most pictures it looks way to white compared with our 62. But on this last pic it is exactly what i would have expected. Maybe the camera flasher?

BTW Looking perfect! I hope one day ours will look just like that.

Hello HD,,,,,,,,,Yea, lighting is crazy but I can tell you, mine is the same color as yours. Lily White. And I was able to match my Lily White from a buried piece of my cruiser that never saw the light of day. It was in perfect color condition so I was able to get an extremely accurate match. Thanks for the nice comments from everyone.

Very Nice, Very Nice !
Your doing an excellent job on her.
I always like seeing the original engine used, so many 40 owners go crazy with v8 horse power just to rip it up.
I am currently building a 69 40 with a few mods but I have kept the engine stock with the original parts, carb, distributor etc .

I will post some pictures soon as the body returns from paint....

Good job.

You should pick up one if those retro style batteries.... It would look showroom ... lime green battery top that looks out of place :)

Sorry if I'm spending your money for ya :)

Agreed. This rig is too perfect not to have a period-correct battery. Hemmings advertises them.

But then, the rest of the rig more than makes up for it.

Driver door done,,,,,,,Almost

We put in the guts of the driver door today. Pretty much done ( door lock getting new key ) and a few other details on that door to iron out. Unique window regulators for sure. Love those. I went ahead and left the old wing window sticker on there from way back in the early 60's. It is all still ez to read although old. So funny. It reads: " KING OF THE ROAD / NATIONAL MOTOR CLUB MEMBER / $200.00 REWARD PAID TO ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR PRIVATE CITIZEN FOR THE RECOVERY OF THIS MEMBERS CAR UPON CONVICTION OF THIEF ''.

Sweet sticker! $200 actually meant something back then; now it barely buys a period-correct battery.

That's going to look great!

Chamba,,,,,,,,,My thoughts exactly on that $200 reward in 1962. I actually looked it up. $1546.38 is the buying power in 2013. " Conviction of Thief " is the key phrase isn't it. That's all you guys for the nice comments.

I went ahead and bought the tin cup brake and clutch master from tbinns. Man, that guy not only has the coolest old build I have seen in awhile but every time I need a part he seems to have it for my restore. Thanks t. So, That will dial me in on an exact 1962 with tins and period correct battery. I think everything else is exact at this point. Am glad I am pursuing exact period correct stuff. Pain in the arse to pull everything together but it sure is worth it. No regrets.

Plus when that thing hits Barrett Jackson that is the stuff which separates the high dollar sales from the average sales.

Assuming fjfjfj does in fact choose to sell his cruiser at one of Barrett Jackson's auctions, what do you reckon it will fetch, Chamba?

Out of curiosity I just looked up what other 40s have gone for this year through that establishment but didn't find any direct comparables in terms of either vintage or degree of original restoration: http://grabawrench.com/tag/fj40/ Maybe I just missed them?

One of the things that vexes me is why there is seemingly not a positive correlation between the older the 40, the higher the price, particularly when a fair number of real early cruisers din't suffer the same rust issues attendant to later model sheet metal. If anything, the correlation seems the opposite. Unless I am way off here, from what I have seen, rust-free late '70s to early '80s cruisers command a lot more money than their early '60s rust-free counterparts. Maybe it simply has to do with the more "modern" mechanics of later models? I don't know.

You've mentioned Barrett Jackson twice now in this thread, so that's why I ask. If I am out of place in asking, let me know. But talk of possibly pulling a record for a cruiser understandably caught my interest. I hope that proves correct.

I know fjfjfj has put oodles of time, money and effort into making his restoration as perfect as possible. And I wish that wherever he sells the cruiser that the remuneration for all his work is a phenomenal success.

maybe I am not getting it - you went through all this just to sell it

Yea, kind of sad isn't it. But, it's been great fun!!! If I win this next powerball though I won't have to sell it. :)
