Jumps . . .

I retrieved the rear jump seats yesterday and tore them down today. They will require the following:

1. Welding in new tube at the bottom corners of one (two corners rusted through).

2. New foam (foam good, but soaked so mildew will happen).

3. New Upholstery (Brittle, torn, holes).

4. Sand Blasting rust (rust on all surfaces under foam)

5. Paint (this will be the fun part).

6. Soaking the hinges in liquid wrench as the seats wont unfold.

Looks like a crash course in welding is in my future. Anyone ever welded new tubes into seats?

Arggg!

****************

Front seats . . .

JP has offered an earlier bench seat which may well fit, but it will require new foams and upholstery.

I have a line on an original seat from a '72 in SC that looks to be in excellent shape and we may only need to redo driver's side. Only problem is that the owner wants a complete set of late model 40 front seats with hardware. Quite frankly, the only set I have is in my restored '82 and while I really want to help James, this isn't going to happen.

*****************
Having now driven 400 miles, I am a little frustrated. PM me or call and I will tell you what I really think at this point. :bang:

*****************

Bottom line folks, this is a charity thing, I don't have anything to trade, especially something better than you have, and I'd rather do nothing than put something in JamesR's truck that is going to hurt a 4 year old.

I am not an ingrate, just a little bewildered . . . .

Greetings,

My guys name is Shane and don't get to help out very often, in fact I don't deal with death very well. But putting a .45 round in somebody for defense is another story.

After looking through this thread and emailing Trollhole I found a place that I can help.

I agree that those jump seats are junk (no offense) and I will donate a MINT set.

Also I am out of pre 78 seat covers for the front. I do however have a set of 79-84 seat covers that I reproduce that are the s*** I will donate if someone can get a set of seats that need covers. The nice thing about late model seats is the adjustments, but I have not done a rail swap and do not know what that would take.

So what I have to offer if needed is

New 79-84 front seat covers
MINT long jump seats
New jump seat hardware kit
Windshield hinge hardware kit
Hardtop bolt kit
Hood hook SS bolt kits
New T-case boot
Rebuilt door limiters.
Powder coated speedo face with polished glass and seals installed
Powder coated glove box door
New shift plate for glove box (need to know model)
Restored heater 74 and up model +++++++++I do need a core or three as most are junk, so I will douche and clean it. Anyone have a core or two they can get to me in Oregon, I think it will go in a flat rate box.
Restored heater blower housing 74 and up model
Any decals you could ever want.

Off the top of my head that is what I can commit to.

Let me know what would be needed and where it needs to be shipped.

Best and Happy Holidays

Shane

Looks like we have a "three-way" (deal) going on a genuine 72 split front seat in good condition. It involves 2 folks from Salt Lake City, one from Charleston, and me in Asheville, acting as sort of a Jay Leno. ATTENTION LOW COUNTRY CRUISERS: your assistance may be needed.

Click on this link to join in the fun: https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/340168-72-fj40-front-seats.html

Got a pic of these seats?

Who is covering them?

I also would donate all the vinyl. Would have to black or graphite.

All I have to say is your the man.

Shift plate needs to be for a 4 speed combo.

Shane,

Thanks for the donations! That might just make the deal. I have admired your replacement covers for some time and will talk with you later about buying a set for my '82 40.

The donor of the bucket seats is in Salt Lake City, Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters is donating shipping, and the donor says the upholstery might need to be redone and thinks they are 78s. If this is acceptable to the donor in Charleston, we get a real nice bench seat from a 72 that looks like t is in need of new driver side upholstery only. There is a good story in this swap alone for Toyota Trails.

Shane, if you could post up your offer of the covers in that thread (making it a four way deal!), we might just be able to pull it off! https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/340168-72-fj40-front-seats.html I haven't heard back from bphilips09, so we are still contingent.

Thanks also for the donation of the mint jumps. You can send them to me at the following address:

While installing buckets with your covers would be a great option, my thought has been to keep it simple by installing the original 72 bench seat in the build truck. As you know, 72 is, perhaps, the most unique year for seats, with the charcoal cannister located in the seat. It looks from the pics as if the evap has been plugged in the donor truck, and if we are very lucky the donor seat will have a good charcoal cannister (I am an optimist). So, the day of the build, we will hopefully be able to simply wrench it into place. No drama.

T-shirt designs are up!!

You can go to this link Build a Cruiser for a Fallen Soldier T-Shirts. Put your name on the list for a shirt, set aside your $20-25 dollars, and you can help us support this build.

Feel free to cross-post this link in all of your other forums.

Dave,

I posted up in that thread with the my covers for trade.

Who has possion of the truck? If you are installing a late 2F you will need the rod linkage from pedal to carb. I have a restored throttle pedal if you are going to need one, but it is not a direct bolt up but easier to install the pedal than convert over to cable. Just a thought.

Thanks Shane! JamesR has possession of the truck and Trollhole is leading all things mechancial for us with Eventhough. I am in charge of all things superficial.

Awesome! Thanks Shane!

David Davis - are you going to coordinate everything with the seats?

Please ship seats to David Davis - I believe he gave you an address (I think). You can ship everything else to me if it is not too much trouble @

Again, this is awesome. Thank you so much!

Thanks, antFJ:

I just happen to have a new set of these in my parts cabinet. !NEW! in package:bounce:

I will also donate these to Mr. Reeves.

Schweet!

Sorry everyone that I was late in responding to these. I've been swamped with work.

Thanks again! :steer::steer::steer:

Shane I'm installing one of my carbs on it. I now have the parts to add the oem cable to it.

Eventhough said:

"David Davis - are you going to coordinate everything with the seats?"

Short Answer: Yes, what does it look like I've been doing? :flipoff2: (always wanted to use that little gem; just kidding Steve, having a little fun with you).

Long Answer: Oh h#!@ yes, we are hot and heavy into a trasncontinental four-way deal on the front seat, the rear jumps are a done deal with Shane (who is also sending an install kit) shipping them to my humble garage, and I even have a cute Cuban assistant. (I hope no one will be offended by the wafting Cigar smoke as the Cuban and I run on Dominican Hand Rolled Churchills.)https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/340168-72-fj40-front-seats.html

If all is worked out in advance on the seats, we may be able to dig a little deeper into the interior including the dash pad (pretty buggered up at this point) and the visors.

I will now take a little time off from brokering 37 year old parts and head to the local Toyota Dealer for a little XM install on my FJC, which is easy because it just requires $ and no persuasiveness or cajoling.

Thanks David!

I'll have to show you a GPS system I'm installing in my FJC - hopefully right after the first of the year!

Oh, and BTW

That is for offering to sell me your 62 3 times and pulling the carpet out from under me each time!!!!

Thanks for your great generosity, Shane!

Damn....American patriotism is gushing out of the woodwork!

Many thanks to all you kind folks out there!!!

Thanks,

I never was in the Military or LE as medical stood in the way, Both my grandfathers were Military then one went to the SS and other City of Portland PD, father was Vietnam Door gunner, and I surround myself with Patriots that are Military and LE, plus they have the best sense of humor.

My Grandfather was a patriot.

wow don't know how i missed alllll these updates but its awesome! Well - before I had offered to restore the jumpseats/heater/blower etc but it seems like everything is taken care of in that regards. awesome. If that triangle of love swap doesn't pan out the seats that https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/339452-71-fj40-seat-seat-excellent-condition.html has might work out - i'm getting pics (i sent him an e-mail not realizing we were probably going to be all set with seats but it won't hurt to have a back up set.

David Davis - I'll forward any info on seats to you - do you have an e-mail address?

Also since everything i was hoping to restore might be taken care of I've been thinking.... have we thought about bolts yet? Stainless or what? I wouldn't mind heading that department - ordering a set from JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD (JIS) SIZED METRIC HARDWARE CUSTOMIZED & TAILOR-MADE FOR THE LAND CRUISER ENTHUSIAST it would be nice to have a huge set of bolts all standardized available in January

Thanks for keeping an eye out for a front seat. Ill let you know . . . Here is my email: david(underscore)davis (at) ncwd(dot)uscourts(dot)gov (fancy security method, huh?)

We have a backup plan if the infamous "four-way transcontinental deal" falls through. And that is JP, aka ClemsonCruiser, who has a bench seat frame.
