I was able to make another Run to Bald Mtn. Every year the 4x4Him.com club brings up troubled teens to go 4 wheeling. I was able to participate this year & had a great time.
@ToyotaDon you were truly missed by many that day.
Here is some vid.

New Slinky rear Intermediate coils AC7501

Last May 2017 I went ahead & purchased the Intermediate Slinky rear coils. When I originally purchased the rear slinky coils they just had 160/320# heavy coils in stock, I didn't want to wait another 2 months for the lighter duty coils. The heavy coils were just that... I run a light rig so the normal 160/270# Intermediate coils suite my needs much better. If I had a dual swing out & spare tire out back the heavy coils would of been just fine. As far as specs... turns & free height are basically the same but the wire diameter looks to be a couple mm thinner.

The ride is much more supple & the handling is really good. I only run approximately 250 lbs overstock in the rear so I can feel that I'm still in the 160# rate then when my family climbs in I can feel it hit the 270# rate. The on pavement ride is like a stock feel same as the heavy coils. The real difference is on the trail... they compress more & soak up some of the heavier hits. Also when I wheel solo... at the end of the day my back likes me better.

Turf n Surf 2017

Late update... time sure flies.

Back in November we made a 270 mile 17 hour day trip to the TurfnSurf 2017 event. It all went by to fast, it was an awesome time.
These 80 series rigs are the best family rigs ever, run then down the freeway for hours, wheel them all day long then go back down the freeway all the way home. Simply amazing.

~~~~~~~~
Since that great day at Turf N Surf the Lx has been pulling DD duty.
Thanksgiving happened.
Christmas happened.
Winter happened, but rain didn't happen, well very little, so no snow play days for us this year.
There has been no time for play as of late, work, family & other responsibilities etc...
Wow, time sure does fly bye.
~~~~~~

The Cruiser has been very dependable no real mechanical issues except a drip of power steering fluid once in awhile, this is on the list.

Well I might as well write my lists:

Needs:
New fuel tank & while I'm in there stuff
Charcoal canister
Power steering rebuild
Electric fan install
Front & rear axle rebuild.

Wants:
5:29s
Tubing rear quarter panel protection.
Winch
Roof rack
17x9 3.5" BS wheels

Bucket list:
Swamp Lake Trail
Spanish Lake Trail
Coyote Lake trail
Rubicon
Dusy Ershim Trail
Buck Rock Fire Lookout Trail
Fj45 Run

If I even get to do two of those in 2018 it will be a good year.

If those heavy coils need a new home... ;)

Funny, I have a few PMs for the heavy coils. I'm going to keep those coils because I have a feeling my fat pig is going to get fatter once I get racks and swing out and spare parts going. One day it will be a dedicated wheeler overland rig.

I still have the fuel tank and I believe a charcoal canister
Thank you I am still interested, when you have the time will you please pop the top of that bad boy and see if there's any rust in it?
How is the 60 body on 80 chassis project going?

Will do. Was going good until I picked up an FJ45. Kinda taking a break.
Well if it works out for the gas tank... it will be like a FJ field trip thing going on...

@megolfer hooked me up with a fuel tank in good condition. It was great to meet another CruiserHead & talking about 40s, 45s, 60s & 80s stuff. He has been working on his Fj68 project... its getting close to done.

He also just aquired a 1967 fj45

Nothing new to the 80 series crowd, but this is my jurney...
My gas tank has been pressuring up & ignored it to the point that my fuel tank ended up acquiring a stress crack. So a fuel tank replacement is coming up soon, but for now I installed the replacement charcoal canister. Toyota no longer sells the stock one... so the AC Delco 215-153 & a AutoZone VC120 are as a direct fit one can get.

I did some research & this is what I found...

Charcoal Canister - Great Option!

This guy had a good write up, so I will post it here.

Charcoal canister by Alaska ADV posted Feb 16, 2017 at 7:24 PM
Here's the AC Delco setup. It comes capped from the factory, but I removed the cap from the air line and left it open to replicate the bottom hose of the original set up.

As others have said, I deleted the bottom bracket and used an extended bolt for the top. The bolt I used was an M6-1X50 (1/4"x2.5"). It's just long enough to work. I also just left the air line open, as I don't see too much purpose in routing it down to the frame, but if someone convinces me otherwise, I'll add a hose there.

Legit canisters that fit

The fuel tank in the Lx acquired a small crack on top of fuel tank.

Buck Rock Trail & Lookout Tower Day Trip

My oldest daughter & I made a run for the fire tower at Buck Rock in the Sequoia National Forest. We met up with several wheelers from the Central Valley Crawlers Club that was doing trail work for the Forest Service, one of them is a good friend named @ToyotaDon. It was a fast paced 14 hour 270 mile day that blurred right past us. We had so much fun I all most forgot to get pics, but we did get a few & would like to share them with you. Enjoy!

June 2018 6 day family trip

The last week of June I took my family up the local mountains to a annual event called Moonlight Madness. The main event runs from dusk till we hours of the morning. The 6x12 box trailer just does not fit my growing family anymore so we decided to splurge with a RV from Cruise America. We had a great time & taking showers in the RV are even better.

I'm trying to post with Instagram vids to see how it works out verses YouTube, tell me what you think.
(Click on the picture with grey arrow on them, it should take you to Instagram to watch videos).

Day 1
Pick up RV & find camp

Day 2
Rock Creek Crossing & Ice Cream run to Shaver Lake

Sometimes it's not all about wheelin... there is a time to chill & watch the family enjoy themselves on there own terms.

Day 3
Black Rock Reservoir
Day 3 of 6 in the Bald Mtn. area, this was our #BlackRockReservoir trip. 6 plus hours.... I missed a left turn back up to Spanish Lake Trail, got a bit lost for awhile ended up in Balch Camp, my GPS situation needs improvement. Anyways got the girls some ice cream in Saver Lake then had a BBQ back at camp.... all is good, a wonderful day it was..

These are a few of my favorite vids so far.... funny my family was actually scared on this skinny road looking down into the canyon just South of #BlackRockReservoir

Day 4 Picnic at Courtright Reservoir
Day 4 of 6 @the_toyotadon came up to join in on the fun. #RockCreekRoad is washed out near the lower green gate. From there we went up to #CourtrightReservoir had lunch. Wanted to make it up to Voyager Rock but ran out of time since we drove all the way in to Shaver for gas, water & groceries. Made it back into camp to BBQ sum burgers & a camp fire..

Day 5 of 6 again wheeled all day with @ToyotaDon we did the #BaldMountainTrail hit the Fire Lookout checked out the Crazies on Posi Hill then cruised to V-Rock & Hollywood Hill then down Wuzzer, Tomato Rock on up to Teter-Tarter back to camp. It was a great day of wheelin

Just bolted up the #BattleBornWheels in time to make it to work. These are the #GateKeeper wheel 17x9 3.5"BS
On the short drive to work got it up to freeway speeds... smooth a silk without any balancing what so ever. I can't be more happy right now with the new set up. They weight 43lbs & widen my track width by 2 inches.
I decided to get rid of the wheels spacers & go a wee bit wider in stance.
So for my birthday I bought me some wheels. 17x9 3.5" BS Battleborn Gatekeepers
They were a Black Friday deal for $199 per + no shipping fee.

Looks treat Gary. 3.5” backspace and how wide?

The wheels are 17x9 3.5" BS
That puts the track width out 1" from center (were it was) same as a 8" wheel 4" BS .5" wider than your set up.
