Nice work

Thanks all:beer:
Yes its a good feeling....sorta. There is always lots of apprehension on those 1st trips out after major work. So far the gremlins have been minor. 2nd trip around the neighborhood today gave me enough confidence that the ol' boy earned himself a new battery. The 7 year old it replaced just barely twisted it over with the help of a jump charger.

It may just make an appearance at the CSC meet tomorrow if I can get some other details done:D

One thing that had to be addressed was moving the engine fuse box down a bit. Closing the hood for the 1st time in years found some interference there

Some pics of how the exhaust turned out...

And it's new stance from a distance. A little low in the butt hopefully I can correct with a taller shackle.

Well I almost made it to the CSC meet in a Cruiser

Clutch adjusted, carb adjusted, water pump bolt leak sealed, made a few laps on the city streets. Took it easy till dark and headed out. As soon as I left the neighborhood (fortunately), my custom modified PS pulley parted ways with the Cruiser

Barely got back before super heating and burped coolant all out of the overflow bottle. Had to take a 2WD Toyota to the meet:o

I guess my clearance mod on the pulley made it weak. Time to find another solution.......

Congratulations! :D

How'd you like the Scout steerring?

I've colected the parts to do the same to mine... just need to find the time/energy to get to it.

To soon to tell really. So far on the street it feels fine. The proof will be what happens out in the rocks......

So the bright idea of removing material from the PS pulley to get room for belt alignment failed miserably:crybaby:

Probably shoulda tried this 1st:
Shims to move the pump away from the pulley. It was helpful to have a cashed out pump to do the fitting:rolleyes:

A bit of a pain to install, but so far the results are looking promising. Hopefully the un modified plastic pulley has the stamina to stay with it. However I am working a making a custom steel one now.....

Now that it seems I have an operational vehicle again, it's time to turn attention to the other stuff. Things that only matter if the rig will actually go somewhere.

1st up got the onboard air back in working order (we'll see how the bone yard compressor holds up):

Other list items to follow in no particular order:
Rear disc brakes
Tie cage to frame
Tie seats to cage
Stereo and cargo box
Ride height leveling (maybe)
Lighting
Front Bumper
Fuel Injection

Finally some creature comforts....

An Alpine mech-less head unit to replace the 25 year old Sony cassette that was in there. :grinpimp:

You can hear music over the sweet music of the V8? I wasn't going to bother installing a stereo because my 40 just seems too loud to make it worthwhile. Maybe it's the years I spent in (terrible) metal bands... but I don't think my ears are good enough to hear music over the 283...

I'm still trudging through your build so forgive me if you covered this somewhere, but where/how do you have the speakers mounted?

Sure, all you need are watts! And somewhere back on page 22 is this:

I'm planning to put a pair of 6x9s and an amp in a compartment in the front of this box.

Being a musician in a rock cover band for 30 years myself, I've probably lost a little hearing too. But not enough to give up on tunes in the ride.:D

Got a few engine break in miles under the belt today, So far So good. Even a few at speed on the hiway Trying to remember old noises and and hear new ones is tough after so long. The long setting tires are still not quite round, but the new SOA in front tracks surprising well. Nice to be in the convertible again

And the PS pump is still holding.......

A few more break in/shake down miles today, And a recurring gremlin...

Riddle me this Batman. Why am I blowing the heads off of grade 8 bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds on? 5 out of 6 on one side.

Bad hardware?
Do I need "exhaust bolts"? (never have before)

Wow. Is that an OEM manifold? Can't tell from the photo.
