Only concern is going slow so that it doesn't get too hot. I am only spot welding about 5-6 places on each side and not running a bead down the entire edge. Each rib is now about 3-4 times stronger than it originally was. I think I could put a roof rack on it now...

To clarify, concerns regarding the inability of the roof panel to move?

I've noticed on the three Pigs, as well the 80, that the cross supports don't directly attach to the lower roof skin, but can only assume the reasoning, and reason for question.

Originally, there was cushion (insulation) between the ribs and the roof. This allowed for the roof to flex a little without bothering the ribs. I think the cab is rigid enought that the roof will not need to flex. If if chooses to, well, I guess we will find out if this was a good idea after all. I welded the ribs to the roof so that the roof would not slap against them while driving. I did not want to insulate since I am not going back with a headliner.

Also....I just ordered my rockers and floor panels from bobm. In about three weeks, the pig will be nearly rust free, and ready to put back together. I am stoked.

that would have to be a very stiff body on a wagon since the torque value is expanded due to length.

i'm going ot go with midgaincs idea of welding the headliner rods to the inside of the roof supports but pigheads idea of flattened out pipe insulation for the cushioning material and leave my roof skin loose. unlike pighead tho, i'm going to put a new headliner in.

Good info. Never seen one attached and fully aware of the stresses on larger areas of sheet metal.

Have an idea on incorporating a floating roof, but will be some time before I get to it.

James,

I've one box ready to go of things you need now, being discussed minus glass and filler neck.

I can't find your address, so please PM or email and I'll send this in advance.

I am excited about getting some things....I will soon be waiting on the filler neck. We are just about 3 days work away from completing the underside rust treatment and undercoating. I just dont know when those 3 days will occur!

Whatever channel and misc tailgate window parts you can throw in, please do. I have two that are missing just about all of their guts. I do have two regulators though....good start. I am calling about the gears now.

Sending the patch panels today.

Should be sending all else tomorrow, but will advise if delayed.

Seeing as how the 71 and 72 are both now on the body shops well hidden, well secured, and very inaccessible property, I'm at their mercy to retrieve items and both tailgates are there, along with the filler neck.

I hope the rear glass makes it ok. Going to package to the best of my abilities, so we'll see.

Chris

I took the tailgate off. Plastic hinge bushing is gone. Anyone have any ideas?

I am having a hard time visualizing the plastic hinge bushing for the tailgate. Are you saying there was/is plastic between the two hinge pieces?
Pic(s) may help...

would anyone have a measurement? If not, I can get it later today. I plan on going by my machine shop buddy's house and can get him to measure it. He is also looking at the door hinges today too, if I can get by there.

I ordered it now. 12mm shaft diamter, and the other two measurements are 15mm and 16mm not sure which is which. I hope the work. I am looking now for replacements screws. I had to jack up the original ones when getting them out. They were stubborn.

Here's some pictures with the bushing not pressed all the way in, yet. Your's will work fine.

Bushings came in the mail today and look like they will work great.

We are working on the brakes now. Look at the hubs in the photos. DS is a Warn, the other side, no idea. What do you think?

I am going to take the PS Warn off of my parts truck and put it on the pig so that they will match. I know there is a hub kit that should go on there. Can someone tell me what that is all about? How difficult to install the kit, etc.?
