I've got your glass covered. All but the windshield.

Edited: I see now that the pic doesn't show stack of glass...but it's there.

What do you need for your tailgates?

I have one that the regulator will be removed from, for sure, and believe there's one in the parts pig "pile" the PO added.

I need a rebuild-able 2F Aisin carb.

How are you on hoods?

Have one that's not in bad shape. Can't recall how good Nick's was.

Do you have spare tailgate window regulator?

I have two complete regulators, both with good rollers, I will need one of them. I have one good handle, and one very rusted tray or whatever the glass sis in. I am sure there may be a switch or relay or some other mechanical part need, but since I am not focusing on the tailgate now, I have not specifically inventoried what I have and need. I disassembled one today to get the gear out, which was badly worn. No one mentioned that the arms are very ready to strike you once you pull the motor and gearbox out! Either way, the machinist has it now to test drive the prototype gear with. The carbs I have are as follows: one Holley on the 2F, one locked up one sitting in a bucket of transmission fluid that came off of the 155, and the one thrown in a parts buy, supposedly mechanical linkage and in unknown condition. I will prob opt for the last one, and be willing to part wi the others. The Holley has cable hookup. I will not need the Nik hood. It isn't terribly rough, but there are rips about midway on each side about 5 inches long. It will need a brace welded in and the rips welded and ground to be great. I didn't notice any major dents. I know I will not use it. The original hood I have is pretty rusted, but not dented. I can make it work.

I may be willing to part with the front seats. I want the pig to be mostly stock, but I also want it to be safe and comfortable. I am digging the buckets at http://www.ironpigoffroad.com//index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_33&products_id=94

With 3 pt belts, I could advance the safety to 1993 levels! One thing I also noticed about the 1971 parts rig is that there are no smog vac lines. Is that stock? Also, I haven't heard anyone mention what the firewall part is I asked about in the photos....I don't thinking will be needing it either.

I examined the the firewall piece more, and I think it is part of the vacuum actuated transfer case shifter that I have heard about, but know nothing about. Today, the body is coming off of the chassis, well mostly, I am am hoping the firewall and the front clip will stay on there long enough to get to my office. I am going to check out the fuel system closely and see if there has ever been a smog set up. I am excited about having a chassis to work on! Now I am on the hunt for some body mounts, spring bushings, possibly power steering, and front disk brakes. There is a guy in Athens, Ga that has a '76 model 40 front end with disk brakes for $600. Is that a good buy? Is it better to do it that way than to retro fit a 60 disk kit on what I have? Does the 40 and the 55 have the same axle gear ratio? Big questions....

Could be transfer case pieces on firewall.
There were likely some vacuum lines for your year - look for a emissions manual for your year.
It is easier to roll an entire disc brake front end under your Pig than to have to swap knuckles and re-align the centering. You should probably rebuild knuckles on the '76 front-end for piece of mind. $600 - depends on what kind of shape it is in.
40 & 55 both had 4.11 up until '79...

look at my parts truck now.

I hope no one had sentimental attachments to this pig....notice the fuel tank with only two vent ports. i cut the DS rear panel around the taillight, since mine is bent on the grove, like someone backed the taillight into a tree. i may try to weld in a patch for that. I also cut out the B pillars, since mine are rotten. I got a good underside look at the pig also. They are not too complicated, now I understand what bobm was talking about. I thinking about getting this frame sandblasted and painted, and being done with it.....Oh well, Nik's old pig died a slow death, but parts of her will live on in multiple other pigs.

Wow you've been busy. I'm glad it's pieces will live on.

It appeared to have two vent lines to the filler neck, and then a single line to the fuel pump. This is a lot simpler design than the setup with all of the hoses going to the emissions, etc. I still think, that I am going to go back with the stock setup for the 73/74 model. Mainly because I have the tank ready. However, I am not convinced that the emissions compueter and all of that is still operational. What would you guys suggest?

I am looking at the tailgate tension bar. It looks like a useless add on. Do I really have to use this and the aggravating cover that goes the length of e tailgate? Why not let the brackets on each end of the gate work and support the gate when it is down? The tension bar looks like it was designed to assist a weak individual who could not lift the gate and close it. Now it serves as a haven for more moisture and corrosion. I would like to delete it, for simplicity sake. Any suggestions?

Midgainc,

I was toying with this idea, also. The one on my parts pig works good and the more I thought about ( advice from the group ), I'm restoring the one for the SLOW 71.

As I applied the sound deadener inside the gate and started putting back the guts, the thing is getting heavy. Now, my little Wife is nothing to mess with, I would hate to have it get away from her, or one of my Grandkids.

A pain now to fix right, but might be worth it in the long run.

it's not for support. it's to help the tailgate going back up. you'd be surprised how heavy it can be.
