I've looked on the forum but can't find an answer. I have the 2 sets of front turn signals shown in the pic. I'm trying to figure out if the Grey or black housing color is correct for my 78. I see them both for sale new here and there but can't seem to find info on when the switch was from Grey to black. Cityracer has sets for sale and they're black.

Rustoleum Smoke Grey Gloss Enamel is a very close match if you refurb them. On eof the PO's on my rig painted mine white!!! 
My '77 has grey lights and seem to be original from Japan. (don't mind the damage)

AFAIK OEM was only ever grey.
Recently bought these new OEM units for my '77 FJ40.

The ones on my rig now are a much lighter shade of grey, same color as @Hilux safari above.
