Sorry to hear it Jason, what did you decide to do with the FJ40?

Tucker

I sold it to a State Farm insurance salesman's wife before I left Texas.. She/they had all the bondo sand blasted out of it, (was worse than I thought)...so they put a new Aqualu 3/4 tub on it and it is now painted midnight metallic blue.. OH! and has a 400 fuel injected Chevy SB with a TH400 as well.. :meh: re-vamped the steering, corrected the ill-fabbed C&T, new 4 wheel disc brakes, electrical harness, charging system, suspension, found a hard top and painted it to match and installed a vintage air AC unit to boot....I'd say they put about 15-20K into it. Sounds like a very nice 40 now. The insurance guy had a few connections I'd say... I'm waiting on pics....

Dug out some parts to get ready, OEM clutch ...

My buddy Kelly came over and helped me winch the pig out, had to stash it in the corner for the funeral reception :-( Spent the rest of the day coaxing this big bitch out ... it's headed for some refinishing :-)

Pulled the fuel sender and got the remaining 4 gallons of diesel out of the tank today, all ready to go to the shop tomorrow. I also started putting together my split-case:

5th gear oiler:

New gasket:

New seal:

Correct bolts:

Idler assembly with new o-rings:

Drive assembly and bearing:

Tucker,

I know you're running an electric winch, will you install the PTO gear, in the transfer or is there a spacer instead?

That's looking good dude!

Ran into a bit of a snag with the transfer case, noticed the front output bearing was crunchy after I pressed in the shaft and installed the snap ring and seal :frown: New bearing, oil slinger (mine was a early case w/o this), and seal in route from Georg. In the mean time I spent my day off grinding and cutting underneath the pig, what a mess. Removed the home-made receiver hitch and supports, welded exhaust mounts down the frame, and stock transmission mounts. I've got a little more grinding to get the rear cross member out, did get the new-to-me frame piece de-rusted and painted. Will be finishing up the motor this week, hopefully get the transmission in next weekend ;) I also shuttled the 55 gal tank to Don Harts for Renu treatment:

Tucker,

I had the tank from my M37, done with the Renu treatment. Turned out great inside and out. They actually cut holes in it to bead blast and clean, treat and weld up. Ain't cheap, though.

Sorry, my mistake, I thought you has already replaced w/ new, and the new one was toast
I didn't get a full rebuild kit, I ordered the gaskets and seals from Kurt. Needed this bearing got an oil slinger and new seal to do it right ;)

Ya - I drove it over there and delivered it in person, he explained the process and showed me some of the tanks they were working on. It's not cheap but will have a lifetime warranty, I didn't see many other options other than having a tank made which would have cost similar if not more (mine is 55 gal) -
