Sorry to hear it Jason, what did you decide to do with the FJ40?
Tucker
re-vamped the steering, corrected the ill-fabbed C&T, new 4 wheel disc brakes, electrical harness, charging system, suspension, found a hard top and painted it to match and installed a vintage air AC unit to boot....I'd say they put about 15-20K into it. Sounds like a very nice 40 now. The insurance guy had a few connections I'd say...
New bearing, oil slinger (mine was a early case w/o this), and seal in route from Georg. In the mean time I spent my day off grinding and cutting underneath the pig, what a mess. Removed the home-made receiver hitch and supports, welded exhaust mounts down the frame, and stock transmission mounts. I've got a little more grinding to get the rear cross member out, did get the new-to-me frame piece de-rusted and painted. Will be finishing up the motor this week, hopefully get the transmission in next weekend Not sure why bearings wear out, have a feeling that's why they added the oil slinger here in later casesTucker
I didn't get a full rebuild kit, I ordered the gaskets and seals from Kurt. Needed this bearing got an oil slinger and new seal to do it rightSorry, my mistake, I thought you has already replaced w/ new, and the new one was toast
Ya - I drove it over there and delivered it in person, he explained the process and showed me some of the tanks they were working on. It's not cheap but will have a lifetime warranty, I didn't see many other options other than having a tank made which would have cost similar if not more (mine is 55 gal) -I had the tank from my M37, done with the Renu treatment. Turned out great inside and out. They actually cut holes in it to bead blast and clean, treat and weld up. Ain't cheap, though.
