I'm stumped trying to identify the speed sensor on my FJ80. This one is broken and I need to replace it but can't find an easy replacement now that Downey is gone. I need suggestions on where to find/make a replacement. It would go a long way if I could identify this one...

Here are the essentials on the truck.

  • 1991-Stock A440 Transmission
  • Chevy 5.7 Vortec conversion (VSS goes right to chevy computer)
  • Chevy requires a 40 pulse speed sensor
  • This sensor works about half on the time then throws VSS error.
Here are the pics:

could this be why my cruise control doesnt work anymore?

Bench test from the FSM:

Connect terminal 1 to the positive side of the battery. Connect terminal 3 to the negative side of the battery. Check that there is continuity four times per revolution of the shaft between terminal 2 and the negative side of the battery

The black is ground...negative
The red is positive
The yellow is sensor out....should be 4 pulses per revolution.

The output is a square wave pulse, and not a sine wave.

Pic this time?

Now were talking!! So is this the factory sensor? If so I was under the assumption that it was not 40 pulse compatible...

Thanks for posting this definitely solves the riddle...
