The insurance company - who are still getting started, gave me the go ahead to get the car and they will pay me back so, I’ve rented a pickup from Enterprise, getting a trailer from Uhaul, and I’m on my down. Tomorrow morning I’ll meet them at the tow yard and see what I’ve got to work with.

Good luck!!

Dumpie has been rescued!!! I rented an F250 and a uhaul trailer and im On the road home. Rear drums were seized but the tires had air. Steering works. Cab is a disaster - all the parts in the box melted together. Bed was full of burnt trailer.

Will start new build thread ‘Dumpie rises from the ashes!’

Aww man, that’s such a shame, but glad it’s heading home! Hope all the insurance stuff gets sorted too.

It didn't even melt the plastic Land Cruiser emblem above the driver's fender! That's encouraging :)

you realize those are metal on this vintage rig, not plastic.

Sorry man!! Hopefully she’s still got a lotta potential.

I’m glad you used an F250 to retrieve her... I watched a Dodge/Ram dually burn to the pavement, at the entrance to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge a couple of years ago. I had two fire extinguishers, but it was fully engulfed when I arrived.

Can’t really tell in this pic, but it was a Ram.

The driver said he sure wished he’d invested in a fire extinguisher.

Yeah. Great metal on these rigs. I have a 67. Shoot your info to Whitey45 and get on the LPB registry.

Also, start your new thread in the 45 section if you want personalized help.

I think whitey45 may already be familiar with this one.

How's the roof?
Very hard to find a replacement.

Reading the other thread there was already a complete power train swap planned so original power train was coming out anyway. If the plan was to to a original restore would have hurt a lot more. Would be curious what the carburetor looks like. Probably get a idea how hot the engine got.

So, got it home tonight. 8 hour down, 10 hours back. And I had a thought. Climbed in, jiggled what's left of the column shift into neutral and it more or less rolled off the trailer. So the drums were not glued to the brake pads. I'm going to put the spare (still there) on the passenger front and I'll have a roller - which will be great.

The top as a dent downward that I think I can pop out. No idea if it was there before, but it's totally salvageable.

Yes, this is getting a new drive train, not a full resto, I'll start a new thread. But, the engine, trans, xfer case, axles, the whole shebang is available to a good home.
