I typically roll with my windows down, but AC is very nice to have when needed.......like yesterday on my way home. Caught in an Electrified Georgia Toad Stomper, rolled the windows up, turned on the AC, and blasted that cold air in my rig!!!!

What A/C system is that? I love that you can keep the factory heater.

Hey all, anyone know who makes this AC unit? Looks like the best fit Ive seen with the most 'coverage'.

I like that a lot. Not installing the OEM heater is a hurdle I might could get over.

Getting rid of the OEM heater would not be a option for me. Never plan to use a 40 in the Phoenix area where it gets really hot. Keep my 40s in higher elevations where heat is more important. A/C is mainly so able to closed the windows and vent on dusty roads. Going to figure a way to make this work.

Just need to locate one of these.

Does anyone know if the Vintage Air unit will fit into a '66? The kit says 68+ but I'm not sure if there is a structural difference in the model years that would make mounting it not work.

If you do order the Nostalgic Air kit, make sure you get everything. I also happen to be a Nostalgic Air Dealer, and it is not a complete kit. This kit is very generic, used for many applications. The A/C hoses are not crimped, and the defrost feature is not included. Nostalgic Air has never installed one in a cruiser, they just bought a FJ40 dash to make sure the unit would fit. So they are not going to be very much help with tech support. They are just a A/C parts house, then do not manufacture anything in house, or have a R&D or tech support department like some of the other aftermarket A/C manufacturers.

Here is a shot of the unit.

How does this Nostalgic A/C works in your FJ40?

It will fit with exceptions. Im putting one in a ‘65 FJ45 currently though it has a later 2F engine in it. If you still have the original siamese F engine I’m pretty sure it will not work. As I know the block will not have the necessary bolt holes for the compressor mounting brackets provided with the kit. That said the interior unit will fit fine with a few minor modifications.

The interior is more what I wanted to know about. I’m having a Cummins built for it so I’ll deal with the compressor issue on that end of it. Thank you for the info.

I'm looking at their Bantam S. I like how all the ducting goes straight up and it's smaller.
I called them and they said the Vapor III would be the best option for the FJ40. Issue is there is no condensor bracket for the stock motor, so one would need to be fabricated. Also don't want to be drilling into my dash for vents.

There's a lot of under-dash vents available that wouldn't require cutting the dash. You might have to get creative if you have the lower dash pads.

When your shopping aftermarket A/C systems, look into the CFM of the fans. You're trying to cool a tin can with lots of windows. ;)

Also, heat reflector (sound deading), carpet, headliner, and possibly window tint will all help.
Your weather stripping around doors should be in good shape if possible.
If not - you're just leaking your cool air, the A/C system recirculates the cab air, and if that air never cools down, you won't either.

How did you work out the issue with the bulky air vent/duct ?? The original toyota air vent for ac equipped fj40s is a unicorn. CCOT had a replacement for that vent, but they informed that they have any left.
