For the sake of furthering interesting AC ideas, I want to share what a friend did in his bj42:

Basically, he took his universal AC and had a faceplate done in 3d and moved the face to the center to better distribute the cold air.

Which rubber floor mats are those?

someone should make this add on system. Works well and keeps original heater box. Works well to de-humidify in coastal Carolina and make the heat bearable in the summer.

Hi to all, I´m wondering about AC options for my '77 BJ40. I know its been a while since this post, but I came a cross a similar unit....can someone confirm if this is an original option or some aftermarket kit? I would like to keep averything as original as possible.

I also don't understand the purpose of having a second fan in the air duct, maybe someone can give some info about it.

Thanks in advance for all the inputs.

Some markets had factory heaters, but factory AC was a very rare option.

Oh man. This is cool to see. My 40 had AC installed before I owned it and everything but the vents removed when I got it. I have never seen another 40 with the same vents until now. Always wondered what was installed. Now I have something to go off of.

I had a feeling the unit have been tucked way up high I see the dash because unfortunately the glovebox is removed. That plastic insert you have would be a lifesaver. Did it come with that AC kit or something else. Looks like you have an Aqualu body?

Hope you can update us on how it’s worked out.

Awesome job. Thanks for sharing. Hope you update us how it’s been.

The new Gen V Vintage Air setup has changed my opinion on AC being worth the time/effort/cost in a 40. It’s incredible. Worth every penny

Is it still way intrusive into the passenger footwell?

: edit I looked them up. The added vent locations would be a huge help. Footwell doesn’t look overly obstructed. Definitely an upgrade.

I could care less about ac in my 40 if I was single. Although with all the rain we have had recently I can’t really remove the top yet if I still want to drive it all the time.

Ac and some future planned modifications will hopefully allow me to drive it with the spouse more. She doesn’t enjoy the gritty, loud, hot tin can that the 40 is like I do.
