Assuming the 3100 with cables?

I couldn't find in your thread.

That's the model I like. I haven't bought it yet, it will be down the road some, before I bolt it in. This is the kind of decisions, I was talking about, earlier. Should I block off the heater holes now, because I'm doing the body work now or wait, because I might go with a system that needs the openings. Multiply that by 100 and your mind is spinning.

I'm a little overwhelmed, in all honesty, but aids in the necessary diversion aspect, so it's all in stride.

More research to be done, but have concerns about the F and idle control, or lack thereof, when compressor is running. Guess I'll be contacting the few vendors and see what the pros say.

I like the idea of an inclusive package, to lessen the overall impact under the dash. May be worth ordering the shell to see how it fits and can be oriented.

Going to pose to the Ponyman and see if he's any suggestions or experiences with in the Mustangs, too.

Are you 100% sure you really need air conditioning? In my own, never so humble opinion, I would never consider adding an after-market A/C to a Pig. Granted I do not live in OK, but it gets pretty darn warm in Sacramento...Denver too. I roll down 5 windows, hang an elbow out the window and motor on. Park in the shade.
The less extraneous stuff under my hood, the better I like it. I dislike anything obscuring the beauty of the basic engine. I don't want anything else taxing the output of the engine either.
Our fore-fathers did OK without A/C, I wonder if an after-market A/C would even make a difference worth noticing.
Heck, I didn't even like the bulky heater in the '62 FJ40...out it goes.
It's not my rig, but maybe give it a chance stock first.

No, the little black box is the VSV for smog...you won't need that or it's bracket.

I'd recommend verifying you will not need an emissions test to get or renew plates before deleting emissions items. I have a buddy struggling to add pieces back on his Pig now that e-testing is back in Larimer county...
Not fun.

I'm not 100% sure of anything and I'll have to thank, once again, for reminding me of the goal here, of keeping it stock and simple.

My thoughts were extending the usable time into the near six months of hellish heat we endure here, but do have other Cruisers (or Cruiser cousins) with AC, to split time as occasional drivers, during the summer months.

Over thinking every aspect, which is probably a good thing, but need to maintain focus on the goal. Can always add a later model with AC in the distant future.

Not here. If they ever return to even performing a state inspection, which there's none, it would exempt any vehicle over 25 years old, or tagged as "antique".

Prudence would maintain, if considering value to a potential buyer, but that is so far from a concern of mine, it doesn't factor in.

I'll be here in OK, as will the Pig, until death do us part.

Delancy, I am not sure about how your headliner looks, but mine is shot. We have 3 months of 90+ degree days here, with 80-100 percent humidity. I thought about my options, and I think I am going for parking in the shade, tinted windows, and installing an electric radiator fan in my ceiling instead of a headliner. They will blow the windows out and use super little juice. With only 125 hp, I don't have enough to share with a compressor. Sound crazy? I think this would be an upgrade from stock, and cheap to help us deal with the heat.

My headliner is shot. Not sure if I may not follow in scrapdaddy's footsteps and delete it, after many, many coats of the Lizard Skin Ceramic followed my as many of more of the deadener, then Cygnus white liner.

Hard to say yet.

Fan sounds a good idea as do tinted windows, but will, more than likely, forgo for the sake of keeping stock (except, maybe the headliner. Haha).

May be a seasonal vehicle for me. Have to focus on simplicity, at this point, since this is the first resto of this magnitude and goal is to keep as stock as possible, now ditching power steering, too.

I lack the skills that y'all have, so anything outside the proverbial box on this build, may be in the future.

Anxious to see what you turn up with on yours. I know I need the regulator gear, if that aids in determining viability to have produced.

problem with AC in a 55 is the condensation that builds up around the gutter area on the INSIDE of the roof. Like the 75 series troopies and the 60s, this area is prone to rusting from the inside out. with the amount of work and money being invested it would SUCK to have the gutters rust out just cause someone need to chill.

just sayin.... something to consider.

Delancy needs AC.

It was ball sack awful when I was there.

;)

It ain't even hot yet.

You may be in for a real treat this summer in ATL, though. Early indicators are the SE will be hot and moist.....and that ain't a good thing when it comes to weather.

I've cone around to looking at it like this.

My wife had spring/summer sandals, fall flats, winter boots.

Why can't I have similar seasonal Cruisers?

Hahahaha.

Considered.

I have the distinct feeling that this isn't the last Cruiser I'm going to build. The next will have factory air, whatever flavor that may be, but I sure am liking the idea of a later model Pig.

I've given Ige's comments a lot more serious thought, and I'm curious at what point it's best to encapsulate any non-structural rust, versus remove/repair/replace steel, on the body.

Frames not going to be an issue.

White Pony Classics is the name of guys shop (not the previously mentioned "Ponyman") and he emailed a bunch of pics that I can't access without permission (stupid Google Drive crap) so awaiting his approval to see what he's found, so far.

Will post up and ask for honest abatement review, because I'm to a point that I feel like stopping short of total repair is a fail, and I know that can be very, very costly.

Think to keep in mind is, this is for me and I really don't care what it's worth to anyone else in the end, same as the 80 and FJC build.

Is that a complete dumbass attitude to continue with?

I've learned to pick a better starter, next time, of nothing else.

Chris
if the body is rusted then best to walk away, i understand the idea of "it is for me and not caring about what it is worth on the market" very well
but
it is best to walk away from a money pit that isn't EXACTLY what you want in the first place.

just my advice.

Nope - it's your truck, do what you want. There is really little precedent when it comes to the value of nice 55s, much different then 40s where there are so many examples. I'm with you on the AC as well ... not to bash you guys but you can't understand the 2-3 months we spend over 100 degrees (90+ days in Austin last year, and we're not talking dry heat). You roll down the windows and its like riding in a blow driver, it's a must have for a year round vehicle. The stock Nippondenso was very similar to the Vintage Air units, so you are not far from stock ;-)

just my advice.

I appreciate, Wayne.

Laid awake last night, waiting on the pics and can't open. Sucks.

Know the body mounts, know the rear quarters were crap, know the outer 8" of floor supports were gone, and know the front clip was junk.

Have all coming, along with a lot more, of which he's fully aware of, so I'm anxiously awaiting the "balance", being the unknown.

I'm too deep at this point.

Worst case scenario would be buying the shell in OKC (or another entire Pig for the retail money charged) but can't seem to get any kind of answer from them about the status of pulling the front clip and need no later than Thursday.

It's only sheet metal, right?
