If you're trying to get to the evap core, all you need to do is unbolt the lines that go into it in the engine bay, drop the glovebox and remove the box that the core is in. No need to rip the whole dash apart!'

They designed them to be installed at the dealer so they're relatively easy to get to.

The evaporator core is actually not hard to remove, I don't think you have to take off the dash pad (might be wrong on that, can't remember). The worst part is you really should have the AC system evacuated first, unless you are confident that all the refrigerant has already leaked out. You have to disconnect the lines at the firewall behind the engine intake first, which means you need new O-rings. There's a few electrical connectors that pull apart under the dash, easy to see once you take the glovebox out. Then you take out a bunch of 10mm screws, and it slides right out. Not nearly as difficult as removing the heater core!

@yotadude520 is correct, this was a dealer-installed option when these trucks were new, so it really is easy. I know mine (now his) was installed at the dealer (not factory) because they kinda hacked the holes in the firewall, I had to clean them up when I was doing the paint work.

It’s only been 8 years + since the last post here, so I’m hoping he found that nut by now!

Lol. No doubt @KLF found it way back when.

@toomanytoyzz post is still helping other posters almost a decade later! Orrrr not lol.

@A Thibodeaux I wish I could help but never removed an evap core from a 1st gen before

Can anyone point me in the right direction for fuse and wiring diagrams? Since I've disassembled my dash to install the evap core, I'm having persistent electrical issues, like dash lights out, taillights; and the same dang fuses keep burning out. Any input please and thank you!

Dang man...sorry your still having problems with your 4R. Keep grinding at it.

It'll be worth it once your issues are fixed and such a clean specimen is all sorted!! Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement FB! I've had a stroke of bad luck lately...the Land Cruiser is back in the shop, as it broke down on me last weekend and I had to have it towed back to Lafayette from Lake Charles...suspected transmission issues, even though I spent $4k on a new one last year. Additionally, the 4Runner is giving me clutch problems now...do you happen to know if it's a slave cylinder? My pops mentioned something about this_

What kind of issues are you having? Is your pedal stuck to the floor? :D

No, YD, it's just really dang loose, no tension, and the shift knob is sticking like a SOB

No tension on the pedal when you press it in? Just kinda soft and takes a while to come back up?

Check the clutch master cylinder on the firewall by the brake master cylinder. See if it's a little low on fluid.
