Don't worry about the blurry photos, it would be hard taking photos while doing this :bounce::bounce2::bounce:.

No kidding. I do try to make it to the shop every few weeks with my fancy camara. I think I better make it next week, she'll be almost all together by then.

Thanks. Whereabouts in Papua are you? I did 4 years in Tembagapura on the other side of the border.

I'm in the southern highlands just about in the center of the country. Pangia will come up on a google earth search. Or there is a map on my website.

Nice truck and color!

Thanks. She's coming along. Current status:

  • Other than connecting wires to devices, the wiring is complete.
  • Engine and mechanical systems are complete with exceptions of a custom airbox needs to be installed for the intake. Battery and ARB location pretty much nixed the stock intake.
  • The top has been finished and painted. It had a 12" diameter hole cut in the middle, and a lot of rust. Looks brand new.
  • Interior is starting to come together.
  • Roll cage is mounted and tied to the frame.
  • Seat base is mounted.
  • Steering wheel is mounted.
  • Speakers are getting installed.
Upcoming work:
  • Final installation of fuel tank.
  • Paint and install bed
  • Install exhaust
  • Finish Interior (seats, shift levers, instrument cluster, aftermarket accessory switches (in ash tray cutout).
  • Finish installation of cab (rear, top, doors, etc...
  • Finish installation of misc. body parts.
  • Install front and rear bumper
  • Engine break-in
  • Shakedown/adjustments
I went to the shop today and got some pictures. The guys were in the middle of doing their thing, so no poser shots, just pictures of work in progress.

The roll cage is nicely bubble wrapped:

Dash is looking good. I had to sacrifice the ability to drop the windshield due to the roll cage dash bar blocking the latches.

Detail of the A pillar roll cage leg. I like the design, bolts to the door frame to avoid the inevitable sore knee that a tube would yield. There is a foot at the bottom of the roll cage leg, again, goes to a frame tie. Note the speaker box on the floor. It will mount just above the kick vent.

Detail of the B pillar mount.

And the seat frame.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I don't have any pictures this week, everyone is busy getting the green girl put together.

A bit of an update:
  • Exhaust is complete
  • Bed is painted
  • Dash and instrument cluster is mostly complete
By the end of the week, the bed should be mounted, and all the glass installed.

Next week the final bits should be bolted on (bumpers etc...) and the plan would be for a few days of test driving and adjusting by the shop, and test driving and acceptance by myself. Not sure if that will all happen by the end of next week, but within two weeks, she should be able to go play.

Still trying to figure out insurance (the average agent doesn't have much experience with figuring out the replacement value for a professional frame-off restored vehicle....)

Keep us apprised of how one insures. I think there is a thread in the 40 section somewhere.

Great build man....glad to see you went 3FE. That's what I have in my 45 and I love it. It's perfect for that truck....has a great Land Cruiser feel to it and really gets that truck down the road. Doing the same motor in my wagon.

For insurance....try Hagerty or Grundy....any of the collector/hot rod/classic car insurance companies will insure it for your set value. Hagerty is really easy to deal with....I have a couple hot rods insured with them. You'll have plenty of pics, plenty of invoices...it will be very easy to get the insurance coverage you need. The only thing that becomes an issue is yearly mileage I think. I tried to do my LPB with them but I tend to use it daily...they didn't like that. I can't recall if they have a 2500 mile yearly limit or what. Something like that. Once my 45 wagon is on the road, I'll be to split the miles between it and the LPB so I'll get them both setup with Hagerty.

Thanks, I'm glad I went with the 3FE as well, something about an inline six and and land cruiser that just makes it right.

Also thanks for the insurance recommendations, I've contacted both Hagerty and Grundy as well as a few others. I'm looking for coverage without restrictions, and still pays "agreed value" should the vehicle get stolen or totaled. Once I've gotten something worked out, I'll let everyone know.

A question on your headlight buckets. Are they new or just replated. I've got old rusty ones and looking for options.

Thanks, Ron
