Update

Swung by Proffitt's today to check things out. Wiring harness is pretty much complete on the chassis, drive shafts are installed, all of the lines are complete.

All fabricated bumpers/roll cages etc are fully painted.

Wheels are back from powdercoat (OEM gray). Wanted alloy wheels, but to look like steelies if that makes any sense.

Tub is still being worked on.

Other than the tub, all of the major body parts have been epoxied, and the bed/tailgate are currently in primer.

I didn't take a lot of pictures, as most of the work isn't very photogenic yet (wiring harnesses in the frame etc...).

I did get a few pictures of the bed in the paint booth...

And the body side...

There will be an FJ40 - style fuel door that will be installed as well.

Body work is pretty much the name of the game for the next few weeks, hopefully everything will be in paint late next week or early the following week.

So I'm confused, is Profits closing or not? Truck looks great!

They are closing. See letter from the owner here. As my build had started a few months prior to the decision to close, Proffitt's has committed to finishing it (and they are currently working steadily on it). It is my understanding that this build will probably be the last.

I am really happy with the quality of the build, it will be a true representation of the collection of skills and experience that gave the company its' reputation.

Beautiful work and depressing at the same time.

Can't wait to see more.

Wheels

So the tires are mounted to the wheels, and are now on the rolling chassis. I'm really happy to see everything mounted up, I searched long and hard for this combination, was originally intended for FJ45 axles, but obviously fit fine on the FJ60 setup.

Wheels: ION Alloy 16"X7".
Tires: Maxxis Bighorn LT255 85 R16

After splitting a few steel wheels on my 70 series in Indonesia, I really wanted alloy wheels, but I wanted everything to look as "stock" as possible, so I had the bright idea to powdercoat the wheels OEM grey. I also wanted fairly narrow and tall tires, so finding narrow 16"x7" wheels with the correct backspacing and bolt pattern was a bit of a chore. Not many all-terrain tires that fit that particular rim, but the maxxis tires looked to be pretty good. Here's the result:

I'm kind of digging it. I debated on a black powdercoat for the wheels, but I think this is fairly unique, and does attempt to look stock.

Another picture of the wheels on the rolling chassis, now complete with a radiator.

Finally, the fabrication on the tub is complete, has been epoxied, and is getting prepped for Vortex (bedliner on the inside) and paint (on the dash, door jams and outside).

Vortex

Vortex (Bedliner) is all done. Almost ready for some paint! Items that recieved Vortex are:

Interior of tub (with exception of dash and door jams).
Underside of tub (not firewall).
Underside of fenders
Underside of bed
Inside of bed (to the rails)
Fuel Tank

Everything else will get painted either Fashion Green #2, White (I forgot what the correct shade is for the bezel and top), or pewter for the dash insets.

Radiator/Fan Shroud

Other than plumbing, the radiator is in, complete with a custom fan shroud:

Looks like someone found an original decal for the power steering fluid reservoir. Cool!

Nice Job.....

Bravo..Bravo....Excellent work....I like the VORTEX.....Oh Yah....my 45 will have the same coatings....Makes for a nice finish.

That is looking great, by chance do those guys have any 45 tube parts, mainly the back center let me know. It is looking great.

I am sure they do. In their yard next to the shop, they have many, many sea containers full of LC parts that have been collected over the years. Best bet is to call them during business hours (one eight seven seven PROFFITT). There isn't always someone around to answer the phone, but you eventually get ahold of someone.

I'm sure I'll be happy with it. It should be pretty durable, and give some insulation as well. I know paint would look better, but not for long when using the 45 as intended :)

Made contact and they referred me to another firm, in the process to see about the part I need, The company is called PACOL on line anyone know anything about these guys they are located in Flordia

I haven't heard of them before. The panels look good on their website.
