Plus this weird thing happens in the photos, when I pan from the gold wheels to the spare, that part of the photo around the spare suddenly appears monochrome. Anyone?

Photoshop ;)

Haha lemme take a break! It'll happen slowly. Wonder how thick the paint on these wheels will be now. Started off black powdercoat, then silver, then bronze and now this dark gray color :)

Yeah that's the plan. Gonna do all the cutting and grinding myself. Then have a buddy come over and help me locate the links and brackets, get it tacked in place. I can take it from there. The shock towers is what will keep me up at night. It's the final piece to the puzzle.

I know what you mean. For those pics I decreased the saturation of blue channel which affects the silvers and grays but not to so much the greens and yellows.

3 link shenanigans, day 1!

Ahhhh hell! Looking forward to the shenanigans.

Do you cut off all the existing suspension brackets and mounts and start from scratch or do you reuse any of them?

Nope, everything gets cut off and thrown in the trash! This includes the panhard and radius arm brackets up on the frame.

That's what I guessed. Do you have a plasma cutter? I went to cut everything off a rear axle last night, attacked it with a 4.5" grinder and sawzall and got nowhere.

No I don't. That part is gonna suck. I have a grinders, electric die grinder which uses 3" cut off wheels and a sawzall. Hoping I can make do by cutting the brackets off in small chunks then grind the rest away. I can already tell the coil towers, upper panhard and upper radius arm brackets are gonna be a pain.

Have you considered bringing it to a local hot rod shop? I think that's what I'm going to do with mine., I'm going to want my leaf spring perches done right, unlike if I do them myself. Probably wouldn't be too expensive?

Check the rental yards. Maybe you can find a yard that rents them.

Good idea. I think I'll give it a try with the grinder and if it's too frustrating I'll look into renting a unit.

I really like the smaller hobart. I used one quite a bit building the armor for my first 80 and I was very impressed with it.

Yeah it's a great little unit. Kinda wish I had gone 220v from the start, but so far it's been able to handle everything well.

Extended brake lines for extreme flex

DS is female-male
PS is female-female
Rear is female-male but I don't need it 26" long for the back

Front hub studs are trashed and since I'll be installing the Aisin locking hubs now is a good time to replace them. Debating on going with ARP studs or regular strength. I'm wondering if the increased strength of the ARP studs will put a strain on the gears in the Aisin hubs

Regular, $76 for a set

ARP, $120 for a set

Also considering running the chromoly spindle nut to get rid of those damn star washers that need to be replaced ($43)

The chromoly spindle nut is absolutely worth buying. Setting preload is so much simpler. I also run the ARP'S and after seeing some people shear them, I don't think there's much to worry about as long as you're running the chromoly hub gears. That in the sense that with all chromoly upgrades, the studs will still be the weak point as designed.
