I know it's welded now but you must have hemmed and hawed about the angle of the carrier leaving the top of the tire away from the rear glass. Looks great as is though.

I did. I could have angled the carrier back a bit more but I'm just getting tired of this rear bumper! Really need to get it done and start on the 3link as that will be a long project. Oh well :)

After all the DB's on the road this past weekend, I would install the rectangular light bar just to show them their HIGH BEAMS!

Bumper looks good! Gotta remember to NOT drive in the garage with the HiLift on...........

One of these days I will post some detailed pics of our wheelchair lift and its latching system. It has to be "idiot proof" and relatively easy to use for those with disabilities and it also has some safety redundancy (as long as it is used..)

For those that don't like how stuff in your receiver hitch waggles around with just the pin in it, I'll show how it was done with the WC lift to prevent a 400 lb chair from bouncing side to side. Simple bolt, bushing, and nylock nut.

Great thread! The best thing I ever did was to put my cooler outside! The whole family is happy! An extended 40 gallon tank and a 5 gallon jerry is all I need to get there and well, refuel and back!

What do you do about taillights? They both look covered.

Great setup, always a treat seeing pictures of your rig! I have a big Pelican ice chest mounted inside on a drawer slide system, but having the ice chest outside is a really convenient. I'd done that on my previous bumper for short day trips to the lake. I'll have to do it again with this one, just a matter of finding a smaller ice chest that fits.

Thank you! The feeling is mutual! I ended up going with axe and shovel up front on the bumper with the jack in the front, also. And, a front receiver hitch has made moving the boat and RV easy! :)

^ I need to buy stock in krylon the way you use it!! ;)
Sweet looking rig though!

I feel like with two kids and a German Shepard I have to keep moving stuff outside the LC. I need a kennel mounted to the rear hitch. My wife says it will fly with the cops and someone will call. I have seem some pics on the net of rear hitch mounted kennels. I got the tent because we ran out of room in the back. Any thoughts on the kennel on the back? ;)

I'd put a child in a kennel in the back before I'd put a dog back there...

OK, I wouldn't actually put a kid outside like that. I just don't like the idea of the dog being out of the vehicle.

HA! Didn't Romney do this recently? I mean, I don't see is that big a deal since many people ride with dogs in the bed of a truck. But I don't see that going well with the general public. I imagine they'll call the cops right away and probably vandalize the truck. People be crazy.

There are plenty of dogs on flat open beds without a leash and no issues, but that's in the country! I know in the future I will be pulling a small trailer with the dog and other stuff to avoid PETA issues. I know he would love it, because he loved riding in my Tacoma in the kennel. He was never allowed to be on a leash or run free back there. A sudden stop and he would fall out, so the kennel secured to the bed was more safe. He would sleep during most of the trip. He is an old boy and it is hard for him to even use the ramp I have for him to get into the LC. A kennel would allow him to get in and out easily to breaks. As it is, tree hugging idiots hate my LC. A Dog kennel in the back would only draw more unwanted attention. :) http://www.fiber-pro.com/page3.html

Yeah I'm sure the dogs would love it! My concern though, how would one of those kennels hold up if you get rear ended by the mayhem guy in the Allstate commercials? I could see the headlines on Facebook already: DOOMSDAY PREPPER WITH MILITARY HUMMER ROMNEYS HIS POOR DOGS

Trailer seems like the best option.

Rear collision and spray from puddles, mud, debris on dirt roads, dust on dirt roads, and possibly exhaust getting in there would be my concern. It doesn't seem like a good place for a living thing. The fiber pro looks like a well thought out product so maybe it takes everything in to consideration. Maybe build a longer ramp so the grade isn't as steep for the dog?

With my lift the ramp will have to be 25 feet long!;) I think a trailer is in my future. It is a little more than the fibrr pro but i can put other stuff in it. Of course, she will be khaki.:)

AND DONE! Color is Rustoleum 'Hammered Gray" to match the front. Also decided to change up the wheel color. This is Rustoleum "Annodized Bronze". As you can see there's nothing bronze about it.

Since my rear fenders are trimmed I also cut a bit off the Labs bumper

Here you'll see where it once started out as a swingdown with the bushings. Up top you can see where I then welded it in place.

Initially I just had the vertical latch. But if I pulled on the bumper with some force it wanted to slide backwards. I didn't like that so I added another perpendicular latch. Not going anywhere now. The little platform off to the right is a step I built to help get on the ladder because shortpeopleproblems.

The giant gate fully open. The little strut that Luke provides is really strong. Need to hang on to this thing cause it wants to fly open.

Instead of the cam stops that Luke provides I went with a spring loaded pull pin to lock the thing in place.

Now some clearance differences. At the rear-most corner, Sean's bumper was about 26" from the ground.

16452607696_5a2022815c_h.jpg

Spare tire was 31" off the ground

Measuring how far the bumper sticks out with the tape measure against the body crossmember. Sean's stuck out 8 5/8".

This departure angle is what I love about Luke's bumper. It's just built to slide off obstacles with little effort.
