Hi All,

My current option I'm looking at are either a Tatton DC shaft, Tom Woods or a Tacoma DC shaft. I'm leaning toward sourcing a used tacoma rear shaft and having it shortened if I can find a good used core and it's not too expensive.

From my search, it sounds like 31 inches from end of flange to end of flange, compressed is the length it should be shortened to. Is this the correct length to go with?

I'm running J springs with bumper, winch dual batteries.

Cheers,
Salue

Depends on your lift and bumpstops as well. Mine was 34". There's a thread on it somewhere.

Sorry for hijack..... I need a driveshaft about 9" longer than stock. How much longer is the Taco?

Most drive shaft shops only want you to specify the flange to flange distance measured on the truck. Then they will set up with driveshaft with the right amount of slip joint movement. So you yourself don't need to worry about the "length" of the shaft, let them worry about it.

The Tacoma shaft seems like the way to go, and uses Toyota joints which experience says are much longer lasting. I think the Tacoma shaft also has the correct hole 10mm pattern on both ends.

Who are you having it done, I got a quote to do one and it's 200-300 in Portland

I wish the prices were like that down here :(.

@Salue, I could explain how to measure flange to flange for proper driveline length but it would easier to understand if you just googled it yourself.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, I believe they are the '95-04 Tacomas. The 4Runners have a different bolt size on the CV flange.

96-04. I wouldn't bother with a Tacoma shaft, they are old now. I went this route and it's working out well. The spicer life series joints are stronger than previous 1310's, and these parts are less expensive, American made and readily available.

I don't know about tacomas but my front DC joint came from an 07 tundra with the 2-piece rear driveline. Called a few driveline shops and they said it couldn't be done due to the original manufacturing process using friction welding. Old guy here at driveline services used my old front and the DC and made my front for $175

Yep-a good driveline shop with old-timers is what you need. They have good work arounds, lots of old but compatible parts. Our local guys have been great, and much less expensive that what is quoted here.

I have a front tatton and it has been great so far. Reasonably priced and he will know exactly what you need when you call him as he already has all the measurements. He did have me confirm though with a quick measure from flange to flange. I just flogged the truck all over UT and CO and it did not skip a beat.

I went with the Tom woods got the up grade they suggested & I am very happy. it shipped in one day and they have excellent customer service. It was just under 400.oo to my door. Small town were i live so almost everything I get has to be shipped.
