Wow, that is a lot. Let me see if I can find out anything on my end.
I suspect one of the biggest financial moves a part supplier can do to be competitive is work to get the best shipping/freight rates they possibly can. I had an absolutely eye opening experience dealing with FedEx a couple years back. They charged me $2k to send some equipment from CA to NC. When i got that invoice, once i got up from falling out of my chair, i looked at the original rental invoice and what the supplier charged me for shipping - $350. We had fed ex move my invoice to the suppliers account, and the rate went down by $1650 and i paid the supplier $350 for return shipping.

@thatcabledude and @EWheeler I have the whole setup from real steal and thinking about selling it. I found someone that is willing to sell me a FST bows. That being said if I end up buying it won’t need the real steal.

I also forgot to mention that I was thinking about keeping the B pillar for real steal so I can bend it to accommodate the hard doors. I don’t want to modify the factory ones. But if needed I’ll consider selling the B pillar as well.

Yeah, i only need the door headers and windshield channel. Its not an immediate need, but if i could buy the parts for a reasonable price, i would. I didnt find $750 from TROA to be reasonable, but when youre the only option on the market, you can pretty much ask what you want….. at some point youll find what price ceiling the market will tolerate.

Sounds good! I’ll keep you posted. The individual is going to try to send me pictures tomorrow or Monday and will go from there. I also have both of those pieces powder coated.

I am fairly confident I can get you a better price.

Let’s call that the windshield channel. SOR sells them, reasonable until you get to shipping.

What is your timeframe for this? I have a crate coming from them next week and can probably get them to toss one in. Then shipping would be from TX and not Columbia. If you want, I’ll get a price for you.
Cool. Sent you a PM

I’d take you up on that if I didn’t already have everything else besides the windshield channel…. Unless you’re partying the pieces out.

Thanks

If all this Bow talk in the Dirt Road Top thread needs to go elsewhere, by all means moderators, we can take it elsewhere.

Good luck with that... I think that is the signature of all ih8mud forums.

No sure what you mean by that - I personally believe deviations from OP thread topics and productive off-topic discussion is healthy and natural. It makes a forum feel like a group conversation. Some members and some moderators seem to get their panties in a real bunch if conversations deviate from the OP topic. To each their own, I don't own the place. I think the real steel / TROA bow discussion was productive, and if it belonged elsewhere in the eyes of the deciders, it was worth moving and continuing.

It was meant as you said. Topics on mud rarely stay on topic

@EWheeler and @thatcabledude

I have some updated news if you guys are interested in getting these parts still. PM if so.

Also, for anyone else interested in soft tops, frames, complete kits or other body parts, I am gauging interest in doing a couple orders a month to get the shipping down to a reasonable cost for everyone and move individual pieces from Austin. Also, I can act as an intermediary where it makes sense for larger items.

I will be starting a different thread once I figure out the parameters for the kind of service I'd be performing (if at all).

Thanks,
Ian

Just now finding out about these tops… looking to purchase a soft top for my 70 year 40 and would love to get a tan top for running around our ranch. No need for doors and such just the top and obviously the frame that’s needed. Anyone know if I should pursue these tops being resold or go for another manufacturer?

I’d go another route. I had mine done at Est. 28 upholstery in Broomfield CO and they knocked it out of the park.

Hi Ian! Although I’m set for now, I’m interested to see what you are up to. Post some pictures when you get going. There seems to be a marked for aftermarket soft tops. Manny has received several calls since making my top.

Hey Mike,
I sold a good amount of tops over the last couple years but between some quality issues and mostly, the tariff situation, I’ve had to pump the brakes.
Hopefully will ramp back up when (insert words here) happens.

See you in a few months.
Ian

I totally get it. I had to remove some really cool items from my store that came from Australia, and I’m now considering removing some items that come from Canada. Good luck with this biz. It will be interesting to see what happens when we run out of supplies in the states, especially for goods that we cannot produce/grow in the states.

Your most economical route would be a Besttop, used or new. Especially if its going to have any chance of getting caught on tree/brush branches around the ranch. If you don't already have the bows for a FST top, you're looking to spend a large chunk of change for the whole setup unless you trip over a smokin deal.
