Yes, I tend to type a lot and it doesn't always make sense, but the hopeless romantic that I am (although the ONLY I am romantic with best describes as "arsehole") I can't leave well enough alone, given the magnitude of this event.

I digress..... :)

I'm not creative.

By that, I mean I don't have a creative bone in my body (well, that's not entirely true, but the creativity THAT bone is capable isn't appreciable on a family friendly forum).

Bearing affliction that dissects and compartmentalizes the nuances and idiosyncrasies of life, I'm of a mind that this "build" saga, and others  , a representative sample of a minute, PG-13 creative streak.

Translation- these here projects are all I gots.

Now, some project sagas told in this very same arena DO highlight degrees of inspiration and expression paralleled only in the finest galleries of the world. In contrast, on a good day, I'm a "color by (ten digit part) number" expressionist, in crayon (because they don't trust with paints). The drool saturated works taken from the refrigerator door and passed to astute artisans, for them to interpret and render.

Around three years ago, such a color by number began, a year later, that work passed to a true artiste, for the first half of recreating this monstrosity of vision.....which is now days from completion.

She's 50 miles on her, now.

You really are quite the author.

So far, the only known issues are speedometer reading incorrectly and sporadically, fuel gauge doesn't register, and the rest glass/gate fiasco.

Robbie reported her pulling strong on the 7 1/2 mile trip home, with elevation change of 2000'. Said ride is stiff, which is to be expected, steering is light, tracks straight, even turn signals work.

Surprised no one noticed the signals......however temporary they may be, I don't think they look too bad.

With that, your credibility plunged below the depths of Jeff Skilling...

Beyond my time :D

The Beetle turn signals look sweet. If I ever own a 55 I'm definitely going to look into those. Credit where it's due, of course...

3.70's or 4.11's? It would probably explain why your speedo is off.

nope. it's the tires. and rust encapsulated cable...I used a tcase speedo gear from an 84 fj60(with 3.7 gears), and with my 4.10 gears and 285 tires, the speedo is just about correct...I still can't believe he used the Vdub signals...all that OEM...
good work, C. now it's time for you to learn how to drive it

and rust encapsulated cable...

I'd think this first, too, but pretty sure the cable is new.

Don't think it just a minor inaccuracy, but an operational one.

Both noted in the initial test drive and don't think more than a texting point. Between Robbie and BVB, can't help but think it'll get figured out.

I still can't believe he used the Vdub signals...

Only option, for the time being. The 1 1/2" hole on the PS fender kinda squirrels OE options. Thinking the early grille with grille signals will wind up the final form, deleting the precariously placed fender signals.

Breaking off the side view of a '15 Suburban in QT parking lot, with a slight shoulder brush, reaffirmed my desire to minimize chances I can break the gargantuan OEs.

The swine flu once it gets ahold of you wears down your immune system for ever.

Symptoms have waned, since I've not been directly exposed in two years.....so perfect timing to reinfect.

Mechanically, it's near the pinnacle of OE-ish 2F potential, and anxious to see the view above the clouds.

Enjoy and drive for a loooonnnnggg time...

I hope I can.....

Knowing there's so much still to do, the reinvigoration of driving should propel the next phase.

Don't want to lose traction, once regained, if that makes sense.

Awaiting pics and videos, but without rear glass functioning and with snow in the mountains, don't know how far she'll venture in the next few.

when did try to rebuild an old speedo, I found the main odometer gear to have a few teeth broken off...

I'm hoping it is the speedo.....

When Shahram was still running the show on the containers in the Middle East, he found a not-in-box, NOS Pig speedo in MPH.

Customs had it's way with it, breaking the needle and losing a screw (maybe stripped, I dunno) but those are relatively easy fixes, all things considered.

As far as I'm concerned, the hands of time have rolled back to zero, nor is there any way to document mileage shown, so she deserves a 00000....

yes it does. yes it does.

Hopefully not far at all, the snow is supposed to start flying tonight. Gotta keep those Piggies out of the evil mag chloride...

If you have an 80-87 split case (assuming speedo gear original to that unit) then for 33's you need 4.11's for the speedo to be correct.
