At night they absolutely are.

Thanks. Glad to know.

If your running ovals (looked like it from the pics), might even check out the 48 bulb units. Our club members say they have no problem seeing my rig through the dust. In fact, I even had a complaint about how bright the brake lights were.

My brake/parking lights are oval in the rear, but the turns are an amber 2" round. The oval brake/parking lights are absolutely bright enough during the day.

Ok, I though we were talking rears here. My bad..
I plumbed my turns into the the later style fixtures like you have on your fenders, and the 2" rounds on the bib just serve as parking lights.

Looking good, can't wait to see the cage installed..

So was I. I have 2" amber rounds on the rear for turns, plus red stop/parking ovals.

shifting at 1800-2000? Should easily run to 3k. I just get rolling with first and take 2nd and 3rd to 3k if I'm trying to get out of everyone's way.

When you drive a truck like that, you should find a girlfriend. :steer:

A few observations.

Either this truck is getting better, or I'm getting used to it. I know the ECU needs to learn a few things, but the more I drive it the more giddy-up it has.

I'm getting used to the H55F. I just need to run through first and second quickly and get into third. This tranny is absolutely a truck transmission. The shift point on this engine is 1800-2000rpm. Significantly lower than my 4Runner.

I calibrated the speedometer with the GPS (push a button, drive two miles, push a button). Running 2000rpm makes the truck go 55mph in 5th gear.

I love the Flowmaster.

When you drive a truck like this who needs a girlfriend?

Great! all we need is a another typical kidless bachlor

That should not be hard to do. Jon, have you looked for a "You must be this tall to ride" sign? You don't want to picking up any girls too young.

Jon,

I wish I could have been at this meeting- I would have loved to see your rig all done! David spoke really highly of it. I am still tossing up whether I want to put a diesel in my LX or a 3f head....

I find that the 3:73 work really well with my H55f. I have 4:11s in my LX, and I never, ever use the first gear. I brough back one 3:73 from the US, and I plan to stick that in my dif. I run those with 33x10.50s, and it works well- not sure how well they would work with 35s.

Sorry if you said it somewhere in here and I missed it, but have you calculated the fuel economy yet? Would you rather have the 2FE or a Vortec?

I hope to see you guys soon, but no promisses yet. Did George get those 5 speeds yet?

Cheers,

Josh

Got HAM?

The FT-8800 is installed. I used a quick release mount so I can move it from Da'40 to the 4Runner, or lock it up. I did a radio check with Mike last night and had no problem at 5 watts simplex talking across town. This radio is a good size and mounted nicely on the front of the Tuffy console.

The roll cage might be in ABQ. The trucking company website says the cage was still in Colorado, but I called last night and the lady thought it had just come in. I'll know more this afternoon.

The radio looks good. Keep us posted on the roll cage. You're almost done!

Did you get your power steering leak figured out?

I especially liked the pictures in the dirt - it looks right at home!

Notice how the car-hauler trailer has been carefully photoshopped out?

YOUR TEQ IS CROOKED? :doh::D

Place a nut under the shift ball to keep it in place, and put some blue lock tight on it as well.

The trucks looks great!!!!

Josh

I have only driven the truck about 130 miles and I haven't topped off the tank, just a jerry can plus 10 gallons. I'm not going to knock a V8, but I didn't want to do the same old meh when I could keep it Toyota and do something different.

I picked up the roll cage after work. The power steering leak was a loose/stripped clamp. Fixed it with a new clamp.

Wise guy.

Thanks Mark. Ya, the ball is not on there very well. I was just going to glue it on with lock tight, but the nut is a good idea. What size?

I worked on the roll cage last night. Mostly paint and tack welded the seat belt mounts. I must say that while the wait was frustrating, it was worth it. This cage is art and function. I'm going to buy mounting hardware after work, and do some more welding on it tonight. I know Mike has offered to help this weekend. Is anybody else available Saturday or Sunday? It weighs 170 lbs and is more awkward than heavy.

I can work around those sitting for the tech exam.

Jon,
I might be able to help for a bit, busy weekend planned though. Let me know when you get a time figured out and I will try and make it.

I should be able to help, but I'm not sure what my schedule looks like. Post up with a suggested time and I'll do my best to get over there. I haven't seen the truck since it was in (A BUNCH OF) pieces...
