I keep forgetting this,
I found a craftsman stubby phillips screwdriver in my tool bag when I got home yesterday, who lost one?

Daisy

I see, coil, driving trans tunnel, dash cluster, and a few other electrical bits. Hopefully the brake light switch. :D

-Mike-

You saw that? I see one picture, a front quarter shot, no interior or under-hood shots...
Oh wait, you went over there today, didnt you?
Daisy

Mike got all that from the picture. He has x-ray vision. Haven't you seen him in his tights and cape flying over the city? :flipoff2: You should have figured that out by now!

What kind of loose ends, we need more details!
Daisy

  • Install brake line under the hood.
  • Make new clutch hard line.
  • Install coil/ignitor.
  • Route parking brake cable.
  • Route speedo cable, but decide it would be easier to order a shorter one.
  • Hook up Ox sensors.
  • Mount diagnostic box.
  • Finish routing cowl harness, including various relays and stuff.
  • Adjust the kick vents. One is still not right.
    [hey, it's raining]
  • Tighten up body mounts.
  • Mount relays on firewall.
  • Finish connection to tail light harness.
  • Install tranny tunnel and shifters.
  • Clamp down, extend, and loom backup light and license plate light wires on tire rack.
  • Install one door.
  • Install mirrors.
  • Install seat frame, realize it interferes with straps that hold down the "gas tank" tool box.
Most of these only took a few minutes.

I did not get to:
  • Wiring the fuel pump relay.
  • Wiring the driving lights.
  • Mounting the ECU.
  • Install gas tank.
  • Make harness for rear side lights.

Wow, great job!!
So the next question...........................when do you start it for the first time?????
Daisy

Hopefully by the end of the week. That must be the priority right now.

Those tires want to roll, and that engine wants to run!

More importantly: those blinkers want to blink!

I am pretty well spoken for this week, but next week I've got TONS of time if you need any bits powder coated or need a hand with anything. I'll just be tinkering with our 40 anyway...

I need to get this project done so I can get some sleep. If I have this analyzed correctly I only have six things to accomplish to make the engine run.

  1. Connect the grounds under the dash I forgot yesterday.
  2. Plug in the ECU.
  3. Connect the system to the battery.
  4. Lift gas tank into place.
  5. Pour in gas.
  6. Turn key.

One thru three will happen tonight after I return Larry's trailer and make a Lowes stop.

Awesome!! Did you take it for a test drive?

No seats.
No seat belts.
No front left shock, though that won't stop a trip around the block.
No windshield.
Still chasing electrical gremlins, though I think I have 'em, except for #1 above.

Sitting Pretty

Sure looks silly without the windshield.

Damn, that's pretty.

The fact that it's in the driveway means it's driveable at least enough to move it into and out of the driveway, no?

Why do I have a feeling Jon's picture on his computer at work is of da'40 in the driveway? (or will be first thing tomorrow) It should be. Frikken beautiful.

Damn, that's pretty.

I am not a "bedliner" fan; either exterior or interior. However, the job that Smith's Ultimate lining did is very good and Jon's truck just looks right with the liner. It is very thick; probably 1/8" in places, yet it is smooth to the touch. The exterior paint color is perfect and gives the truck a classic Land Cruiser look even though it is SO and running 35's. Jon's selection of bits-n-pieces was methodical and the end result is better than the sum of the parts.

When I was looking for the "before" photo over on Yahoo, I ran across a long thread where there was a lot of discussion with some out-spoken club members trying to talk Jon out of doing a fuel injected engine. In the end, Jon wasn't deterred by the dissenters and that 3FE system on the 2F engine is absolutely perfect for his truck.

Thanks Mike, and everybody else that has offered encouragement, suggestions, muscle, and been a technical resource. I knew nothing about Land Cruisers when I started this project. There are things I would do differently, but not many. Some I will do over, though. Gotta take those tailgates and fenders to Smith's.

An update.

Tomorrow I will drop off the windshield to a guy Daisy knows for installation of glass.

I picked up an F250 shock tower from Rich Ford and I think I have something engineered to get the left front shock mounted. It's funky, but should work.

The roll cage will get shipped on Monday, and probably arrive on Thursday. I will need to weld in the mounts for the seat belts, paint it, then get it lifted into the tub and bolted down.

I had a bunch of electrical gremlins. They turned out to be easy fixes, mostly because I built the harness and they were self-inflicted. Right now the electronics are 100% working. And damn Mike, those 80 horns are loud.

What else? I still need to:
  • wire up the fuel pump relay.
  • wire up the rear marker lights.
  • wire up/relay the driving lights.
  • wire up the CB and install the antenna.
  • wire up the front locker.
  • bend the shifter cuz it hits the center console.

None of these tasks are critical enough to stop me from driving it. Also, I realized the distributor rotor and spark plugs are for a 2F. Need to fix that.
