Merle can you just make reservations for around 20 that should have us covered.

Looks like the weather is going to be great. High of 65 at pisgah in Sat and a high of 60 at mount Mitchell with sunny a sky.

Strike that.

Pisgah weather will be about the same but Mt Mitchell will be a high of 49 on Sat. So bring a jacket. When we get there we can go to the restaurant and hang out. They have good apple pie.

that is because weather.com does not forecast for the 6,684 high summit of mount mitchell rather the valley roughly 4000 feet below........... I can promise you it won't hit 50 degrees on top of mount mitchell sat.

here is the National weather service forecast for 5800' roughly 1000 feet below the summit........... says a high of 51 and if you take off the 3 to 5 degrees for the elevation change it should be somewhere in the mid to upper 40's up top :D

so listen to Marshall :flipoff2:

weather.com says high at Mt. Mitchell state park is 64 on Sat.

and I thought I was the only one who followed rays weather........... that man knows his stuff when it comes to weather in western NC. I follow him religously during the winter since he is the only one who can be counted on for accurate higher elevation forecasts..........

I don't think Steve is going to be posting about the weather anytime soon..........newb :grinpimp:

weather.com isn't very accurate for the NC high elevations.

Try http://www.averyweather.com/ instead.

Use Beech or Sugar (top) for a closer guesstimate. Looks like right around 50 for the high right now.

Dorking out on weather is another hobby of mine... :D

So does that mean no camping Saturday night? I told Jeri I'd take her camping, thinking camp Friday night then make the Ivestor Gap run then Pisgah Inn and Pkwy then home. She was thinking camping Saturday night which of course is at the other end of the ride from Pisgah Forest above Brevard.
Suggestions?

Bill I don't see why you couldn't camp. I don't know anybody else that is though. If I could I would though. The weather is perfect for it. Graveyard Fields, Pink Beds, Somewhere around John Rock or even up on Mt Mitchell would be fun.

It's Becca and I's anniversary this weekend. We have a room in Biltmore village Sat night.

Weather looks like it's warming back up though for tomorrow. High of 66 for Pisgah and a high of 52 for Mt Mitchell. Cannot wait.

We will meet at Pisgah Inn somewhere inbetween 11 and 11:30 No reservations so grab a table and eat once everyone is done we will head out to Mt Mitchell.

I am most likely out Marshall. I'll be close by all weekend but doubt I'll be able to pull away long enough to make it.

You guys and gals have fun and take some pics, the weather is going to be perfect!!!

That view from inside the inn got me choked up for a minute. God, I miss NC some times.

That would be great for me. Jeri prefers to avoid primitive camping. I love Graveyard Field for example. But then again, that's the other end of the run from where we end up.
Looking for suggestions near Mitchell with at least toilet facilities if not power.
Or perhaps a decently priced B&B in Asheville. I haven't broached that possibility but it's been in the back of my mind.

Thanks
