Hey Matt, like your idea for carrying a spare axle shaft, may borrow that for SAS7.

That's awesome. I got this one two years ago at a local liquidation for $250 since it "didn't work". Ground bolt was just loose inside the cover. I need to put a new liner in it but otherwise been a beast.
no one makes the simple industrial welders anymore. They've all gone to invertors with a lot of Chinese components. Anything industrial is 5000.00 and over.
The last Migmaster I bought was in '08. It was 1700.00 delivered new. Welder manufacturers are pushing the lower cost solid state stuff. Even my ESAB rep confessed
that they'd rather push a welder that has a five year or less lifespan than a product that can be kept running for 40 years. They still won in the end..... They discontinued
the important rebuild parts like the switches so you'll either have to buy the lighter duty stuff or pay 4-8000 for a welder as dependable

I know that’s a needed field supply for Matt🥴. Make sure it doesn’t rust

I keep the splines wrapped with a latex glove with a few oz oil. Wrapped with electrical tape. Electrical tape on the seal surface as well.

I actually have never broken a rear shaft so I may quit carrying them. Of course I will probably break one this next trip.

When I go on extended trips…such as SAS Ouray, I have carried spare axles on my roof rack. Think I will like it down low much better.

Like @Zjohnsonua I also decided I needed a skid plate at the last minute

Yeah, I’ll do something. Not sure exactly what yet, I totally winged this

Very nice.

Commence big trip #2 of 3 for this year, GSMTR. The first time this truck has been to one since 2017 (although I have been back to this park twice since)

Made the 12 hr drive from Orlando to Oak Ridge TN uneventfully besides an engine oil leak that has gotten progressively worse. I think it’s something on the rear main seal cover. Nothing I can do about it now besides keeping an eye on it.

Gsmtr doesn't start till Wednesday this year, lol.

See you in a few days.

Sure, but why go wheeling for four days when I could go for seven? 😁

Well, GSMTR 2023 was a 1000% blast.

Drove there and home and only had a few minor mechanical issues.
1. The cable shifter for my 203 loosened up which prevented my from shifting back into High, easy fix
2. Came down on a rock hard enough to bend one of my front spring hangers which started to crack.
3. The U-joints in my heavy duty trail driveshaft were COMPLETELY toast so I swapped those out on the 2nd day.

We did some really hard stuff for a 60 on 37’s (bunch of black trails like Walden’s Ridge and some double blacks at the end of the week) and got a bunch of body damage and blew my rear 1/4 glass out.

Drove home no issues really.

Win.

Pics in chronological order I think.
