I got this one at Napa for my 69 and made a "T" bracket so I could use existing bolt holes to mount. I liked the size of this one and the black cap instead of safety orange.

Recently I replaced the radiator with a new four row unit fabricated here in Cuenca, Ecuador. At that time, having no problem mind you, I replaced the water pump, hoses, belts. The thermostat I had replaced a few months earlier and so no need to change it again. But I would still have the problem with "whistling" after running awhile and having to add coolant (no anti-freeze used down here). So I decided to experiment with a coolant recovery tank. This has been an improvement. However, I was still having to add coolant, just not as much. So some more research shows Poser's information which includes venting the bottle. I added that yesterday, we'll see what happens. New taxes for shipping stuff down here makes an already expensive process more so. Not sure what the availability of an FJ60 tank would be, haven't found a junk yard yet, but I will check it out as those are pretty clean installations.

beemer - The coolant overflow bottle looks great! Need to get you some of these hood cushions installed. They would help with the metal to metal connection of your hood to the bib.

Old FAQ bump.

What's the latest on this? 16405-90A03 (cap sub assembly) from Poser's setup, appears discontinued. 16480-24010 (tank) from tmarx, appears discontinued. I do have the 16611-61020 (bracket) though.

Trying the piece something together for a 1974.

I posted up in Parts Wanted section. Got a whole pile of responses from guys that were parting out 60-series wagons.

I got a used bottle, bracket, and cap/hose assembly pretty reasonably priced.

My 1981 FJ40 Coolant Overflow Reservoir / Windshield Wiper Fluid Reservoir looks different than what I’ve seen here.

Problem is it interferes with factory wiring harness tie down (or whatever it’s called). I’m thinking of grinding off this tab and bolt to fender.

Looking for others expertise / thoughts... Is my bottle correct for my ‘81?

Apparently there is ambiguity in this thread.

Here are the part numbers and pictures of the OEM pieces that ARE AVAILABLE 24 NOV 10.

The new OEM pieces and part numbers:

16480-90A00 - Reserve Tank
16405-90A03 - Cap Sub-Assembly
16611-61020 tank bracket

Well, I haven't revived a dead thread in a while, so what the heck.....

As of today 19-Aug-2022, the tank and bracket part numbers listed above are available through Toyota, but now the cap/hose assembly is discontinued.

I also looked for the 16405-17010 cap sub-assy that was also suggested and it too is discontinued.

CityRacer lists the cap sub-ass'y, but their site is down currently, so I can't confirm if it's in stock.

Anyone have suggestions on an alternate Toyota cap sub-ass'y that can be used with the 60 tank?

Matt: I mounted your overflow bottle on the bracket that you supplied on the passenger side fender. I was under the impression that the OEM factory location for the snail horns was on each side of the radiator support. If I'm wrong on that, where do they go?

OEM Toyota land cruiser horns and cooling system overflow bottles varied in there mounting locations over the years , and among different destination markets ..

and models too ......

- you can absolutely mount my coolant bottle i show above under your Snail Horn OEM mounting location TAB or female captured nut if desired , the height of it in

relationship to your Radiator Cap service port overflow fitting does not matter , because the cap controls the fluid flow here in this unique case , NOT simple Gravity feed

like if you Siphon Gasoline or DIESEL from your filler neck port through a common tubing or hose ..
..

Does this help Mark ?

Ironically, after looking around at the various options, and before seeing your reply to this thread, I bought one of these kits from you. ;)

And to answer your question, it's going on my FJ40 resto-mod....

Don't know if this is correct or not, but this is how I mounted our overflow bottle, leaving the Hi/Lo horns on the radiator supports.

Hey Matt,

I've seen this last pic a few times and I'm curious why it has the original overflow tank and a new one mounted next to it. I'm reassembling my '76 with the original round tank, and I'm wondering if the new tanks offer any sort of advantage.

Thanks.

So I’m also going to need an overflow tank as well but want to keep the horn’s mounted on the radiator support. I really don’t want to drill a hole in my fender to attach one even though I’m going to have to drill two holes for my charcoal canister. Any ideas where I could mount the tank? Thanks

The factory round one is your best choice if you want to leave the horns on the core support. I have one with the mounting bracket in the classifieds.

Before you drill holes in your fender for the canister, check this bracket out. I walked through Pick and Pull until I found a bracket that was the right diameter for my canister. I think it was from an older Tahoe. The bracket angle was just right when I inverted it to match the angle of the battery tray bracket. The canister sits straight up and down. A couple holes in the bracket was better than in the fender.
