Team,

Appreciate the deposit from everyone. We are all paid up at this point.

Shipping is backed up from SA - unsure if it's because of the war in the middle east or something else, but my shipper is having a hard time getting a confirmed space on a container ship. I am in daily communication with him about shipping.

Appreciate everyone's patience as we move along with this.

Team,

Getting loaded on ship this week! MSC HOUSTON V, Container Ship - Details and current position - IMO 9463281 - VesselFinder - https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/details/9463281

Departure from South Africa expected for 5 May. From there, a 53 day transit time, so expected arrival to LA is around 27 June. From there, expect to be offloaded and moved to a warehouse for pickup.

If everything works out, looks like these should be able to get retrieved around 4th of July weekend.

Would you ask for the boxed dimensions? I want to know if this will fit the bed of my f-150 or if I need to bring my trailer

Total cost for shipping is $6680.17.

Have received deposits from everyone (myself included) for $500 totaling $4500.

6680.17
-4500.00
-----------
2180.17

$2180.17 is still out there for collecting. Split between the 9 of us, this is $242.25 per person for just the freight cost. I am asking for this payment immediately as I've fronted the total freight cost.

@seanroe1 is currently working to finalize the onward movement of the 3 additional roof tops from LA to Charlotte for the East Coasters. Total cost of this is currently estimated around $1000. Split between the 9 of us this is another $111.11. This will be finalized once the tops are picked up here in LA for follow on movement. Please squirrel away some money for this.

Finally, there are import duties to be paid at 2.5% of the declared value, which I believe is $40,000. This would put another cost of $111.11 per person. This won't be finalized until I get the bill from the port/my import broker. Please squirrel away some money for this.

Keep in mind there will be some additional port handling/storage fees once the container arrives in LA and it has to be moved to a local warehouse for breakout/storage. I will unfortunately have to pass these costs on to everyone. Please plan for a small cost for this.

Expect the total shipping cost, with import duties/offload/breakout/storage to be around another $500 on top of what you've all already sent me.

A little higher than expected, but all in, this would put our landed costs at ~$6000 USD for the top, pretty much half the cost of getting an Alu Cab top that's already here in the states.

Will make another post after this regarding payment status for remainder of freight costs. Please send me your $242.25 soonest via your previous payment method and please make sure to annotate what both your real name is, as well as your ih8mud handle is.

Thanks,

Paul

I'm still keen to coorinate getting my top from LA to the SF Bay Area. Let me know if anyone from the PNW has ideas or would be keen to discuss cost charing. Worst case I can pick it up myself but would prefer to sort out some type of more local delivery. Is paying additonal $ for follow-on freight an option @prwillard2?

Potential exists to do follow on freight. Would need to work with my import broker on this.

Also for everyone - MSC Houston is pulling into Cape Town at 1300 on 10 May. Loading of the ship will go from there. Slight delay, not ideal obviously. Hopefully the ship is underway from Cape Town by 15 May. This would put an arrival into LA right after 4th of July.

If you could please let me know about follow-on I would greatly appreciate it! Seems like only one person in the PNW and they also appear to be looking at follow-on which would mean no opportunity to collab on pickup from the port.

I can also potentially store your top in the Mojave Desert at my house if you don't need it right away and can make a trip down later to the Johnson Valley Off Road area or Joshua Tree National Park.

Otherwise I will discuss with my import agent the possibility of onward freight movement up to the PNW. I know @seanroe1 is working freight movement of 3 tops from LA to Charleston.

Picking up from you in the Mojave might be possible, I do get down that way once or twice a year typically BUT I don't have a suitable vehicle to transport it so freight forwarding would be ideal. Unless the pricing comes back exorbitant, in which case I would maybe consider renting or borrowing a suitable vehicle and getting it myself. I do appreciate your willingness to store it for me - thank you!

I am located in Santa Cruz county - about 350-400 miles north of the port of LA.

Hi all, we are planning on driving a flat bed pickup down and can likely pick up 2 or 3 more in addition to ours.

Happy to coordinate drop off on the way north or in the PNW.

We are going to be installing in the in-laws large shop outside sisters, and people close are welcome to do their install their’s too.

We are free to pick up on the 6th or 20th depending on timing.

Also more than happy for someone else to pick up ours if someone else would like to do the drive.

I'm up by Seattle and would be interested for sure in working out a way to get mine northwards.

I’m keen to coordinate with you. Ideal scenario would be if you could drop mine off in Santa Cruz since I don’t have a vehicle capable of transporting it but, I could also potentially meet you en route somewhere along I-5, I’d just have to rent a truck for the day in that case. That being said, I’d gladly pay a commensurately bigger share of the costs if you were able to drop mine off in Santa Cruz as I’ll be traveling much of July and may not even be able to meet you depending on the exact date.

Totally blanked on this. I never got an option to add these. Can you confirm if he included any in the shipments?
If you didn't add them during payment, I don't believe he would have thrown them in for free unfortunately.

Ship has departed Cape Town!

Headed to New York City time now.

Estimated arrival to LA is 6 July.

Updated arrival time into Los Angeles is 27 June, so long as there are no delays in transit.

Hopefully this thing doesn't get stuck in the Panama Canal.
