White smoke is typical of condensation burning off and it can take a while to go away. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that unless it smells somewhat sweet. Then you could have a head gasket issue.

I have read this 540 blog several times. It IS LONG. … Very long. Has so much data and information in it and has some recommendations which scientifically backup the claims on oils. Then, the slogans pop into your head or stroll down the oil aisles of auto stores and read about “STP”, Marvel Mystery Oil, Engine Restorer, and probably 50 others that let you slip back into their marketing jaws.

I’m no different. When I walk away from reading the 540 blog, I am convinced I have the right oil and mindset to move forward…then I read, improves combustion, cleans valves, increases mileage…. You can’t win😂

I do use ZDDP additive in my 56 and 57 Fords. Both with 312 cu.in.blocks with flat tappets. Is it doing any better? Did I drive them 250 miles in the last several years? So, I change oils, boost oils and pay for additives that may do very little. Then , I re-read the 540 blog a few months later and start all over again. He’s always adding something to it

@greenbeast by the way, they’re in the mail fyi…Merry Christmas to you and the family

Off to work for few hours and couldn’t walk past Clyde without seeing how it would start this morning.

Fired up as soon as starter engaged. Once home after work have to work on those sensors and let her run for awhile.

Fixing gauges should be easy as nothing was attached after removing cluster.

However my books don’t show and nothing on searching mud talks about two black wires (grounds possibly?) and where they attach?

Anyone got some ideas?

My guess is those are for the Ammeter?
Think this is good possibility, went back and rubbed decades of junk off wires and have little more to work with.

Looking at wire diagrams now to hopefully learn some more.

Guess they could attach to the two taller posts which have brass appearance adjacent to the plug. Guessing the W = white so worth a try.

Someone who has had the cluster out before will chime in to confirm, but my guess says you are on the right track.

Hooked up and slight discharge when key turned on. Still lacking oil, temp and fuel so more work tomorrow.

Appreciate the help!
