great info. Thanks for sharing. This gives me some good stuff to think about. I'm really happy with my 80, but it's getting up there in miles and I've wanted to upgrade to a 100 series, but the IFS was a deterrent. This changes things.

Keep us updated.

We did it to see if it doable. Obviously it can be done. Just takes time and $'s.

Christo, what an incredible build! You are like the R&D dept. that Toyota should have in a perfect world.

Thanks, not sure if Toyota is monitoring this. Not sure if they would like what we did.

Instead of shortbus yellow, how about 100-series bling dk. pewter w/ gold graphics- all-metallic paint befitting a soccermom suv :D ;)

We do have something else cooking. Going to body shop on Monday. Working on the graphics now, but you know I am not that good with that. .

Oh and if you sell it to Shotts, I would have to boycott you on principle alone.

I don't think this one will go to him. The body is a little rough to be a Tucson Princess :D It does have L shocks though :D

Christo, could a 78 front axle be used? or is importing one just too $$$. That would allow one to keep 5 lug. What you have built is intended to run 39's and is super bomber. I'm sure the 78 axle is not that strong, but would it be ok for say 37s? Are there R&P or other issues that prevent it's use?

We did think about that. Catch is that I did not really want to run imported parts (like hubs etc) for serviceability. I would have loved to run 10mm studs on the hubs instead of 8mm.

To be honest converting the rear to 6 lubs was pretty cheap and painless, other than the expensive bearings we had to press off and destroy in the process.

Honestly once one see the fabricated housings and the benefits, retrofitting an existing axle does not make sense. Double axle seals, one on the diff side and one on the hub side, 3/8" wall axle tubes, better clearance, way easier to work with because the tube is a consistent shape, clean metal, no grinding and cutting, less change for heat distortion when welding to the housing.

Why L-shocks if they only add 0.6"? :D

After seeing that the new LX is 4" longer and an inch wider.....I may pickup a new 2006 or 2007 Cruiser this fall, swap my gear (bumpers, etc.) onto it then cut up Roklimo. Sounds like a plan. If I do it my 80 will have to go for sure (the peice of crap! :D )

Christo,

Was there any problems getting a pump from PSC? I was planning on doing hydro assist on my truck. It has a supercharged 2UZFE, with a 60 steering box. The only reason I ask about the pump is I know you have access to many parts that us "normal" people can't get, case in point I have called every Rockmonster vender and even called Hal Roth at Rockmonster and I still can't get a set of those sweet wheels.

Ryan.

Same setup as the 80, except for steering, 80 arms with panhard rod. In the picture you can not see it since it is behind the drag link at the same angle.

The hi-steer allowed us to have pretty good angles on the steering rods. After CM we will add hydro assist. We used a 80 steering box with a new pump from PSC.

Wow, Christo that thing looks sweet! You guys are going to be flooded with calls about this conversion. I think you should shoot out a number to ward off the lookie loois and tire kickers. This conversion is obviously not for the faint of heart. I wonder how long until someone starts a thread that you can fit 39s with 2 inches of lift on a 100 series?

About the wheels Christo is indeed the man who can work a hook up. I work for all of the dam magazines (4Wheel & Off-road, Four Wheeler, Jp, 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility & OFF-ROAD) and Rockmonster was one of my advertising clients. I could not get a pair of these wheels for Project 80 because there were none available. Every time I spoke with Hal about availability he told me there were none. They have to slip these wheels in to production when they are not making the military ones. In case you did not notice we are at war, big demand for their wheels. Then all of a sudden Christo shows up to UA with a set. He must be able to smile like a doughnut better then me. :D :D

No, the bolt pattern is the same. Small modification to the bolts needed. The bolt holes on the pump fits 8mm bolts, but the stock pump attaches with 10mm to the bracket. You can get the correct serpentine pulley from them as well. Right now we are running the stock belt, but we will see if we need to go down a size since the PSC pulley is slightly smaller. I believe it is the TC series pump.

I will call Justin. I thought they were in production.

Nice work! Can I wheel the shortbus in Moab since you have a new toy? I need something that can handle really tough trails like porcupine rim and gold bar rim and i don't think i can fit 39's on the beater 60.

Wow sweet 100!!! What year is it? Does it have the fancy electronics for the speedo or does it feed from the TC?

NB: Christo, ek wag om weer van jou te hoor in verband met die AO rak vir the 4Runner. Ek het jou e-pos boodskap geantwoord, maar niks verder gehoor nie. :grinpimp:

What year 100's can you just "cut off the IFS crap" without starting to mess up more than say ABS? Do any of the other newer systems like atrac, etc get affected in a way you can't just "shut off"?

Christo, that may be the best looking full size I've ever seen  . Definitely will be a market as the older 100's get down in cost if a goal like 37's and streetable remains achievable.

My wife needs a new car and I've been thinking she needs to test drive an older 100 :D

ATRAC is ABS. ATRAC, DAC are just using the ABS in a different way. Instead of activating on brake lock, it activates on gas pedal wheelslip.

If you loose ABS, you loose ATRAC.

I'm sure there is a way to retain ABS, just needs to be figured out.

:D

Its not super easy like a IFS mini truck. The IFS stuff is connected to the motor mounts on the 100, so you have to remount the motor. ABS is pretty simple at the wheel end, you just need a counter...
