What's Ige doing in the 100 thread? I thought if it wasn't rusty she wasn't intersted.

I like it. The OME shocks need to make room for some bling bling Foxes or something though:D

And there is room for a Cruiser Crawler now right? Like the Short Bus?

Sometimes you have to let the bling go for what was used on the shelf :D No crawler, but I am planning to do the 3:1 gears to see how they work.

Another pic to show the size.

Absolutely Badfawkingass!

I've never seen a 100 w/o it's headlights et al. Is the hood wrinkled from the previous accident? or is that just how they look?

Edit: When are your high steer arms gonna be available to the public?

Little crinkle from previous contact with a ditch.

Right now I do have one set left, but I used the little ABS Hole Slug due to a mess-up with this truck. Never weld the slugs into the knuckles without checking all the bolt holes if they are ok. :D

With our next batch I will have a couple of extra slugs machined.

Prices are $595 for the arms, and $175 for the RHD Bottom steering arm.

Christo, are you running a panhard on the front axle or just the control arms?

Same setup as the 80, except for steering, 80 arms with panhard rod. In the picture you can not see it since it is behind the drag link at the same angle.

The hi-steer allowed us to have pretty good angles on the steering rods. After CM we will add hydro assist. We used a 80 steering box with a new pump from PSC.

Strength? (39" tires)

Sure. However, there are lots and lots of minitruck guys using the hi-pinion diffs from 80's in very built trucks with 39" tires. Hell, hasn't Robbie @ Slee been running the 8" diff with 42" tires on his minitruck.

Obviously there is a weight difference between a minitruck and a 100 series, and this particular truck will probably see a bit harder wheeling (at the hands of Christo) than lots of 100 series Cruisers that will get wheeled.

Also, that 8" diff holds up pretty well under an 80, and not that much difference between that and a 100. Quite a few guys running 36-38" tires on 80's. The Shortbus is still using the 8" diff.

I asked the original question for the average 100 series owner that doesn't want to drop the cash on a bling diamond housing, but wants to get a solid axle in his 100. Is there a reason other than strength?

Cool, I assume that this SAS could be done using a stock 80 housing rather than the diamond housing. Or is there a reason you could not use the 8" hi-pinion diff?

We keep breaking the stock 100 diff that is the same r&p as the 80. I think it is too small for the 100. However if you limit tire size you might be able to get away with the hi pinion small diff.

The other problem is the width. The 80 wms to wms is 5" narrower than the 100 rear. Then there is the issue of spending all the time on cutting a bunch of brackets off and rewelding to a housing that is not that strong. Come look at the pile of 80 housings we have that are bent. :D

All in all, for the cost of the Diamond housing it does not make sense to mess with a used housing.

I think the width is the major issue, If you want to match the front to the rear, you need at least 2" of wheelspacers or run different wheels front to back.

Adding wheelspacers creates issues with rubbing.

If I had to do it with a hi-pinion diff I would still do a diamond housing. They are only about $800. Not that much in the overall scheme of things.

Great. Thank you. Thats the information I was looking for.

So for discussion's sake, could you feasibly run a 36" tire on an 80 series axle under a 100 series with 2.5" wheel spacers on each side to get the track width back?

Would this setup require constant repairs and chasing of broken bits?

Good point. So with $800 for the housing, how much more $$$ are you looking at for custom inners to fit the wider housing?

You could but the steering is going to suck. As for repairs, should not be an issue. One of the reasons we did not do a bling three link, coil over, ramp champ, truck is driveability and maintenance.

However you are going to kick yourself if you use a 80 housing. You are going to be working around things that are not in the right spot and in the end spend so much time modifying that the $800 for the Diamond housing will be cheap.

Also, by going this route, we were able to set the pinion angle at the ideal angles, as well as caster. You are looking at 100 hours labor plus parts costs. The cost of the housing is marginal if you take the cost of the 80 housing into account. I would buy a bent 80 housing, cut the balls off, send to Brian and have him build the housing. Then use all the knuckles, brakes and the rest of the goodies.

All you need is custom axle shafts, but for most people that upgrade shafts, this is not a big deal.

great info. Thanks for sharing. This gives me some good stuff to think about. I'm really happy with my 80, but it's getting up there in miles and I've wanted to upgrade to a 100 series, but the IFS was a deterrant. This changes things.

Keep us updated.

Christo, what an incredible build! You are like the R&D dept. that Toyota should have in a perfect world.

Instead of shortbus yellow, how about 100-series bling dk. pewter w/ gold graphics- all-metallic paint befitting a soccermom suv :D ;)

Oh and if you sell it to Shotts, I would have to boycott you on principle alone.
