There are options out there for it. Ironman makes what you might call a bayonet kit that looks like it would work on any make or model awning.

And ircc, the hole is sufficiently sized for a standard tarp pole tip, so that you can basically leave the awning deployed with tarp poles in place of the vehicle mount.

Looking for a new ground tent and still kicking myself for not getting in on the Gazelle T4 group buy last year :bang:. Thinking about this Magellan hub tent from Academy which seems to be very similar to the Gazelle.
Any thoughts/opinions?
Anybody want to sell me their T4 tent? :hillbilly:

I just bolted on a new Napa Maxi Trac awning (basically an ARB rip off). And then I found the FB support group
Seems that the construction is not entirely up to snuff and the members in that group have posted alternative ways to beef up the factory rivets and such.
My first impressions are that it's damn near identical to the ARB in design - same extrusions, similar hinge brackets (albeit aluminum instead of ABS) and the canvas seems very similar too. The outrigger legs don't have the ground pins or rope loops on the feet, but if you properly guy-rope it, I don't see it being a problem.

Not bad for $100.

That Group is hilarious. Did you see the one guy who paid $300 to have the awning install. 😂

I cannot say enough good things about the Neso shades for the beach. We have a couple of trips now using it, several days on the beach, and it's been perfect each time. I went with the smallest one for just the 2 of us, it takes a couple of minutes to set up (easily done by 1 person), and packs down small. For beach use, burying the sandbags is key to success.

In the main Camping gear forum here on 'Mud, someone mentioned the CGear Sandfree Mats and how awesome they are. I was excited to get one for our most recent trip (this week), so I picked up the Sandlite:

Hint: Save your money, this thing was as useful as an old towel or blanket. Thankfully REI accepts returns, it's going back.

Sand did not fall through it, oddly sand was able to come up through the weave. Got wet sand on it? Brush it off. Sand falls through the weave when lifting it? That's funny, even after vigorously shaking it at the beach as we packed up, when setting it to dry/air out there was a ton of sand on the ground. 1/10 do not recommend.

Did you ever get one?

Just received it yesterday. Haven't opened it up, but the box it came in is huge. Probably the same dimensions as the the Gazelle, although not really expecting the same quality. Will be using it in a couple of weeks out at Carolina Beach State Campground.

Looks like the doorway on the Magellan is more functional.

as a Gazelle user, I can say the door is the problem, but don't see how they could've done it differently. Something on Academy's site reviews on this tent about no replacement poles or something.

Magellan improved the door design, but the rainfly attachment is still awkward.

I used the Magellan Pro this past weekend out at Carolina Beach State Park and overall it worked as described.

Things I liked: easy/fast set up, very sturdy, lots of zippered ventilation windows (when not raining), included interior lighting (enough light to not need anything else in the tent)

Things I didn't like: doesn't fold back as easily/compact (but what tent does)...still fits back in the carrying case though, non-existent footprint (could probably use a tarp or something else to prevent rocks, etc. damaging the bottom of the tent), the 2 ground flaps outside the door meant for shoes are too small and awkwardly placed, the rainfly doesn't extend past the tent walls (which means you're not covered when you open the door or if the windows are open)...

And finally the #1 thing I didn't like was the condensation. This only happened after it rained and not totally convinced it didn't leak (will be setting up and testing at home). We only had this issue when it rained our last day/night. Pretty much had to close up all the vents (again due to the lack of an adequate rainfly) and with the added humidity this led to quite a bit of condensation on the inside of the roof and upper section of walls. Enough so that we had a little bit of it dripping down.

That being said, I'm not giving up on this one yet and will try a few tricks to keep the condensation down on our next trip.

Those of us with EnviroCoolers, or other devices that don't shut off when battery voltage gets too low, might be interested in this little item that I didn't know existed until today. You can set the voltage at which the device will kill power to your accessories. I'm eyeing this now since my brand new 24F battery has only been giving 1.25-1.75 days maximum before my EnviroCooler drains it in daily temps of 75*Hi to 35*Lo. Battery was date coded the month before I bought it, and I trickle charged it before installing it for good measure. Been keeping the Enviro filled with cold bottles of liquid during my testing and only opening it twice per day. I used to get 48 hours easy even in summer on a 24F battery. Ugh.

Bunch of guys I ride with use gazelle tents, they like them. Easy to set up and put a cot in..
I use a crash pad swag…
Fast and everything is in it always..
A bit bulky though since latterly it has the pad, bag pillow all rolled up in it..
and you cannot stand in it or really sit upright..

If you need dark to sleep… it’s the best though.

Anyone running a kitchen set up and drawer system? Would you install drawers again? My 100 is finally getting some bits and I thinking a drawer system and dedicated fridge.

This new kitchen set up from ARB will be available in the US soon and they are making a shorter version for the 100/200 - RDK1045.

I bought a Jackery 500 for my Moab trip. I also bought a cheap 50W solar panel. Put the solar panel on the roof rack of my truck and jacked it into the input side of the Jackery. I ran my Envirocooler off the jackery the whole time (12 days) using solar and only had to supplement with 12v vehicle power for about six hours when the Jackery got down to 10 percent. I believe a 100w solar panel into a Jackery would keep the Envirocooler running indefinitely as long as there was available sunlight.

Yes, and yes, but I would recommend making your own. Imo keep the fridge as low as possible for accessibility.

Yes it will, I ran mine with a 100W panel and Jackery 500 in NM for 10+ days, in November so shorter days. The 100W panel would get the Jacker to 100% by noon every day from previous night use which included iPad and phone charging.

Thanks for the idea.

I was in search of a new tent/canopy and decided to give this a try. I went with a larger version to accommodate the kids too. Interested to see how it does at Ocracoke next week.
