Been following this mod for a while and have a question: Does adding the filters significantly reduce airflow? My vents' outputs are not the greatest if I have two zones selected, even on the highest fan setting. If I have only one zone selected it blows pretty well, but I don't want to further reduce my output by adding filters. Thanks.

Just finished this mod today. I used the method @2001LC described and removed some of the support bracket bolts/nuts, made removing and installing the new cover pretty easy. There wasn't too much debris in there but the condenser fins were pretty dirty. I cleaned the fins with some a/c cleaner foam from Home Depot and wiped out the dirt from the filter area. Also dropped the fan and cleaned with Simple Green. As mentioned earlier in this topic, I replaced the packing cooler foam at the bottom of the condenser box. The old foam didn't look too bad but it was only $10 and seemed like good insurance to avoid leaking.

I'm very pleased with the results. Air smells cleaner and air flow isn't noticeably reduced. Thank you to everyone that posted the part numbers and procedure!

And as an interesting follow up - my 05 LC had the spot for the air filter but it didn't have the filter in. Weird, huh? That has been remedied and I believe that we are all good.

Has anyone actually tried to convert their air filter "housing" to an LX470 type or one from an LC100 that DOES have a slot for the air filters?

I am highly annoyed by this. How is it possible that some LC's have a slot and some don't? There seems to be no logic at all to this. I came across this problem while trying to figure out why my cabin is always so dusty compared to any other car I have ever had. Total vacuum/wipe-down and two days later everything is dusty and sandy again. Found the air filter DIY and came across this: no slot for air filters. You can actually see where the slot should be, like Denso just sent out a batch where they forgot to cut out the slot....

Interesting. My 2000LC has the slot. I ordered it under a lexus LX470.

I did this mod a little while ago...heads up...there is a wire that fits right along the side of the air filter housing in a precut notch. Make sure this wire if back in the "notch" before you bolt everything up. Other wise you will get some dripping and your LC will smell like feet. Once I placed the wire back in the notch the leaking stopped and the smell cleared out. It's small potatoes, but a pain in the butt if you mess it up.

Good luck.

I didnt see much of a difference. The cruiser pumps so much air flow as it is. It did however clean up the air.

I also did this mod after seeing periodic water dripping. I replaced the packing, which had shriveled to almost nothing. I used my original door and made a cut out for the filter door by scoring it and then using my dremel. There is a rectangle already on the door where the filter door should be. I wish I had pics but you can see it some other pics in this thread. I ordered the small outer door and filters and that was it. The worst part was just getting the panel door in and out to do the work on it. Now I've got clean air and no more dripping!

I took my glovebox out today and found that I do have the space for the air filters. As one can imagine, after 18 years it looks pretty dirty on the fins in there. What would be the best way to clean them? I can’t get a vacuum attachment in there. Any type of spray that I could fire up in there? I have some toothbrushes I could extend to clean them as well.

What product would you recommend to clean the 18 year old gunk off?

I found 00289-ACRKT from another thread in this forum. I already purchased it but haven't used it yet.

I got a vacuum in there and cleaned it out...be careful not to bend the fins...like I did.

Also make sure you get the one wire routed back in correctly puns the edge of the door, if you don’t it will leak.

Doing this right now. Does anyone know if

1, Is there a better filter than the Toyota one (maybe one with activated carbon)?
2, Do I need a gasket for the new big front panel? If yes, what is the P/N?

Cheers

I took mine apart last night, working on cleaning it out today.

The little rubber seal on the bottom of the panel looks to be shot as well (had some dripping), i'm curious if there is a part number too.

Thanks to this thread I was able to convert my non cabin filter HDJ100 to filter the air:)

Big cover & cover door & 2x nippart activated carbon filters. The air is so much cleaner and better!

I had to dremel the nippart filters (the tab on the back side of them) to make them fit, guess that’s what you get for $6 each :))

So thank you for all of you who have contributed to this thread!

My LC is a 2000, it had the cover with door already there but no filters. I doubt it ever had them installed. Water had been dripping onto the floor, but after I cleaned out debris and unplugged the drain line, it hasn't dripped since. For the gasket, I just cleaned it all up and did not replace, then reassembled. Bought the filters and Klima cleaner on Amazon. A #2 JIS screwdriver makes this a more enjoyable job but a Phillips works fine.

So my 2006 LC did not come with a cut out in the air box or a clip in door either. I do have the clips to retain a door. So I am planning to cut into my air box in order to install filters. Does anyone know the part number for the door? Toyota is telling me I have to go to Lexus and Lexus is telling me they can't find it without a VIN # (Which I don't have, as mine is a LC). They are telling me if I can provide a Part # they can get it for me. I obviously don't want to cut into my air box until I have the door in hand.

Thanks in advanced
