I'm gonna quote this just in case I need to tease you in the future...;):flipoff2:
LOL! Sad how an innocent mistake can be so close to the truth. ;) You know what they say about a winch, it's not the size, it's how you use it.

Edit: I corrected my original message, but your quote can stay. I deserved it.

A couple small tweaks were made last night. I've been thinking about changing how my spare tire is mounted for a while. When I originally built the swing out I had the spare mounted straight up and down. It's been fine but I wanted to tuck it in a bit tighter and possibly angle it to match the rear window. Also my hilift has been mounted on an angle behind the spare. That wasn't going to work with the changed spare so it got moved to a vertical position next to the tire. So I finally made those changes last night.

Lastly, I changed out my non-locking swingout latch for a locking one from Destaco.

Nothing exciting to report. My kids have been bugging me for a while to give the truck a name. Naming vehicles isn't typically my "thing" but we did some thinking and came up with one. This name has a couple different references. My two teenage boys and I are all RUSH fans so that's the primary reference for the name taken from the song Cygnus X-1. RUSH fans will probably know what I'm talking about. However, the name also comes from Don Quixote, it's the name of his horse. Either way I guess it works and the kids dig it. :)

If you have some time or you know,

What is the overall top of roof rack height and what are you running for a lift?
Are you asking total height of my truck with the rack or just the height of the rack by itself? Total height of the truck with the rack (unloaded) is ~6'10". I know because the parking garage as my office is 6'11" at the entrance and I clear but about an inch. :)

My suspension is OME J springs, 2" coil spacers, OME L shocks.

Yes that's what I was asking, and exactly for the parking garage reason, most garages in town are in the 6' 8"

I'd be close without the 2" spacer, what does J claim for lift?

Coming from the 3rd gen 4runner world, I'm shocked there isn't a tried and true hood scoop option for these trucks. It's my favorite part about my old truck, and I really look forward to seeing what ideas I can steal from you in that arena. Keep up the awesome build.

I've been thinking of changing how my spare sits too, same problem. Yours looks a lot better that way. The name is cool too, my wife took me to see Rush about 15 years ago when Vapor Trails came out, great show.

I get really good results using appliance epoxy ( I use Ace brand), it is very durable, easy to use fast drying so stuff doesn't stick to it and people have asked me if it is powder coat. Try it you will like it.

I love this truck...

Rocinante was originally the name of Don Quixote's horse... John Steinbeck also used it as the name of the truck he drove around the US in Travels with Charley as both served a similar purpose.

Nothing against the name you chose, especially with family input...it is a nod to a song in which it was a nod to Steinbeck who was nodding to Cervantes...
Another good name(in the theme of horses) would have been Sleipnir... This is Odin's horse and was supposed to be the best of all horses. It was also grey in color...just seems more fitting for such a badass truck!

Yes you are correct and thanks for the description. I have been aware of the origins of the name in Literature. So there are several fitting reasons we chose it but the main one still remains the RUSH song Cygnus X-1 where a space traveler is on a voyage through space in his ship named the Rocinante. I've been a RUSH fan since I can remember liking music. Along those lines, sad to hear the Neil Peart has retired from touring. I guess I've seen my last RUSH concert. :(

Great idea and great write up. As I've said before, you inspire some of us and we all need a little when the 'couch' and home life get's a little too comfortable !

Regards...
Thanks. I'm glad to hear that I can inspire even a little bit more motivation for others to get out and explore in their trucks. I know I have relied on many others for that same motivation, and I'm grateful they were willing to share their experiences.

update.... installed my new LED lightbar on my Prinsu Rack., added a Blue Sea fuse panel and cleaned up some accessory wiring. The truck is getting all new exhaust today (turning the cats, new magnaflow, and tucking everything up), have a blown rear axle seal that needs to be replaced. Also looks like I have a rear caliper that is seized and will need to be replaced. Good times.

42" LED lightbar on the roofrack. It's a spot/flood combo and between it and the 3 HIDs on the bumper, the front light output is very nice.

On a lighter note I did get out for some fun in the snow on New Years Day near the family cabin. MTR's did great in the snow which was nice since my snow chains are a little short to fit the 35's.

My BIL's LX470 did great in the snow too. He is unlocked but had chains in the rear and was unstoppable.
