Anyone know anything about this?

I know, I know probably too soon….

Strange they don't give you the turbo specs, but since its a pulsar looks like they may have just copied the HD automotive kit with a fancier J-Pipe and fancier dump pipe but a $2,500 mark-up!

I'll add it does look like nice fab work, but who knows if that will be the same as the production kit! Looks to be about 30mins from me though!

Visually, the turbo looks on the smaller size so I would want to see all the specs and the compressor map.

It is ferrous and stuck to a magnet.

The pistons are original (prob 200k on them now) but looked great when I did the rebuild so I reused them.
I don't see any signs of HG failure, though am going to do a leakdown test this weekend.
Turbo is fully apart. I found some light chipping on the cold side leading vane edges. Hot side was fine. The sheetmetal housingi that sits against the casting of the exhaust body was pretty crusty and dirty. There was some oil on the intake side but it seems like its been coming from the crank breather that ties in just preturbo. the oil evidence starts at that input to the piping, not before anywhere.
I did find what I can only think is a crack in cylinder two.

waiting to see what a better borescope and leakdown tell me before I pull the head.

Got a better borescope and did a leakdown test.
burnt seats on no6 exhaust. Going to pull the head when I get a free weekend. Need to decide what to do about valves. stock, or upgraded, etc.

I’m getting this installed on my rig. They’re going to do a build thread here.

Hopefully new motor will be delivered in a week or two!

Can't wait for that motor to get here so we can dive into it!

Yes we will be making a dedicated thread on mud soon to document @shellb 's build and the turbo install. Going to be one epic 80 when it's done with stage 2!

The HD Automotive kit is not a complete kit. What we will be offering is going to be a 99% bolt in and go affair hence the added cost. These bits will be detailed when we do a full thread. Thanks for the kind words about the fabwork. What you see in the photos is some of the production parts. If you're 30 minutes away come hang out sometime!

We'll make our own thread soon, don't want to hijack this one too much so those of you who want to know more keep your eyes peeled!

Out of curiousity what Denso spark plugs are you guys going to spec on your kit?

It will be nice to have a land cruiser shop nearby again since Robbie (PowderPig) left boulder, looking forward to your thread!

Not sure how they got 146 HP, when my rig dyno’ed pre-turbo at 119-221. At about 230k miles.

Different dynos can give very different numbers. Certain types will read consistently lower or higher compared to others. Different types of dynos employ some pretty different technology in order to measure power output. To further complicate matters, individual dyno operators sometimes mess around with "correction factors" for temperature, altitude, etc. Basically, the number doesn't really mean anything except when replicated on the same dyno under similar conditions. As long as your "before" and "after" are on the same dyno, you can get a good picture of what the modifications have done. Mine made 121hp on a superflow dyno stock with 315k miles at 5600' altitude.

Has anyone else running the wits end kit for a while pulled and inspected their plugs recently?
Now you got me paranoid

Ha, not my intention. But I had a fresh fully built motor and this happened so i'm curious what other people are seeing. Debating reinstalling the kit and rebuilding my head or pulling the whole drivetrain and putting a diesel in. Driving to prudhoe bay in 7 months and don't really want to run into turbo caused issues out there.

Spark plug inspection on any forced-induction engine is a good idea. It doesn't take a lot of detonation to damage them.

Installing a Chinese made turbo on a FZJ80 will be a no-go for a lot of people.

You aren't wrong, it may deter some but the guys down in Australia with every variation of the 1FZ-FE have been running them hard (upwards of 20 psi) with great results and so have we without problems. Do some research on pulsar and you'll find that they do make reputable turbos. Not claiming it's as nice as say a Garrett but definitely still a nice piece.
