Yes bring wood.
We would be me and the family. We will not be camping out in the open if its freezing and the wind is blowing like it was 2 and 3 years ago when we went last. Fire is not an option if weather is like that. If its that cold and windy we plan on going to the individual spots at the campground that we used 2 years ago as a group.

I'm going to try to ride up Friday afternoon or Saturday morning and introduce myself. I've been a member for about a year. The only member I know is Marshall, he's putting my 40 back together.

I'm out. Work has gotten in the way and I'm a man down. I was looking forward to finally meeting some of you folks. I guess I'll have to settle for just @CharlestonG8R at Portsmouth Island.
Sarah, @FJ Junkie, is still planning on being there in her 80. You have no idea how bad she's been wanting this trip. She's been there before and loves it.

That "settling" bit sounded eerily like my wife's wedding vows... We'll miss you, but I have no doubt that Sarah will tell you all about it!
And I'm sure her stories will begin with: "Remember when Gabe emphatically said something about a fire?"
Matt we won't know the weather up there until we get there. I know I'm camping there Friday night hell or high water. Will it be cold? Most likely. Will it be windy? Most likely. This is one of those times where you have to roll the dice. We are camping in an awesome spot considering the views and remoteness. Heck Cullowhee could be just as bad. I've got a place as a backup that is down 215. It a cool place and has plenty of room for us. But I thought I would throw it out on Saturday if we had a rough go of it the night before. I've never been cold sleeping up there on the at BB but hats because I strapped a heater to my ass and slept in the cruiser away from the wind. I will say I camped up there with Josie when she Was three and had no issues with the right clothes.
Also if it's windy we won't build a fire. I'm not taking a chance of making a new graveyard fields. But the new area that's in the woods is pretty well sheltered from the wind. That being said Gabe got frostbite last year. I attribute that to not having the right gear. This is one of those places that not having the right gear a not fun experience.
Also the weather is looking in out favor. I know will probably curse us now. But the high will be in the 50's and lows in the mid to upper 30's. That's unseasonably warm for up there.
Teddy I'm going up Friday. So looks like you and I can follow each other up. I go up through sunset into roman and then up 215 to the parkway. I'm bringing the 80 and my golden retriever. Kids are staying home this time. I need a break after the two weeks of hell I've had.
I am gettin stoked about this trip...Marshall's right, this is just a trip where you man up and bitch about it later. Believe I'll be investing in a heater for the cruiser...nothing like a new toy for the cruiser!

If I read correctly the actual temp will be in the 40s. Windchill is the 30s.

My biggest issue is shoes. I need some boots. Might have to make a walmart run.
