Well hell.
Yup. I think I'll worry about buying a new dipstick and tube after the Porsche bill and new roof for the house.

Was this due to the fire? I seem to remember something about a fire and your engine before you swapped it in. Man, that was a long time ago!

The Cummins dipstick And tube isn’t cheap. It will run you over $100 for all the pieces. I bought one for my 75 and now need one for the 80 as it’s cracked at the end.

Yup, it's from the fire.

Yea they are expensive and I'm not sure if a 6bt dip stick would read accurately on a 4bt engine.

On an oil change after the oil is drained out I would fill per cummins capacity spec and make a new high level mark on your dipstick. This is before running the engine. Then run the engine and check back on the mark in a day to see how far the level dropped and add oil to return to the mark. Now your dipstick will be accurate.

@TRAIL TAILOR

Random people pulling up in my driveway to check out your handy work.

Caught by one of my security cameras.

Of all the things done on that truck, the longhorn bbq pit is the one that gets the most attention.

I'm picking up my HX30 this weekend from BenzForce! Thanks for the referral.
I'm glad it worked out. I found this guy randomly on eBay when looking for a super HX30 only to find out he's local to us. Man Austin is growing.

While little red is going through a full engine rebuild, decided on going with a mahle motorsport big bore kit. Going from 3.2 to 3.4 slip ons.

Yup. My shepherd is old and he really wanted to go. He could tell were going somewhere so he got excited and stayed next to the truck. Trying to get in when we open the doors.

The trip was good except for the traffic. Hit 77mph with a fully loaded trailer. Never did the engine temps go over 200*. Go shroud and electric fans .

Next big upgrade is the 2017 4 runner brakes.

Made it to San Antonio for the night. Continue on tomorrow.

Guess who's no longer excited to go camping because it rained outside.

This guy.

Just got back from a fun weekend of hiking and camping with friends. Got to finally use my solar panels and battery pack that I bought for round up. Very pleased with both.

Because of a snafu with website, we ended up with two hike-in spots, so we camped in the parking lot at night while the others used their primitive spots.

Took the dogs for a hike, but they weren't allowed near the dinosaur trail, so we didn't get to go.

On the way back got to do 80 mph on some decent stretches. Never did the temps exceed 200*.

When I got home found some packages i forgot I ordered.

How hard is it to replace the leaf spring bushings without a lift?

20200627_115858.jpg

Just need to get the body high enough to get the weight off the axle.
I've replaced them before but had a lift I used. Might have to go that route again, but we're back on lock down so who knows when that will be now.
