I never thought about powdercoating a fuel tank. Makes total sense now that you blew my paradigm.

Ever since I started this restoration One of the things I fell in love quite thoroughly is powdercoating.
The key here is like in many other trades you will find most powdercoaters making a s***t quality job so you gotta keep serching in quest of your top flight powdercoater specialist.
This is a trade that cannot be learnt overnight and requires heaps of routine mastering it constantly. My powdercoater that I used for all these jobs is John at Perth Powdercoaters. They are flat out of jobs and famous for amazing quality they produce. The coat they create is thick and very hard to remove. It is like as if its etched to the metal surface. Best results are on blasted bare metal. They use an epoxi primer and a UV resistant top coat. The finished surface will be so thick you can not recognise the coarse surface of the blasted bare metal.
You can use powdercoating almost everywhere, it is not true that it chips easily and resists up to C180 degrees temp. Except for really hot parts you can use powdercoating everywhere.
After all I am very happy with the fuel tank turning out to be better, I guess much better than when it was new.

Spare wheel carrier stainless pins are getting made. The only difference between original plan is the bottom fixture. I will use a nut instead of bolt.
The gun drilled greasing and the bronze bushes are remain the same.
Keep watching.. to be continued

Probably I should've started a new thread for this but..This is my new project here.. I will soon produce 16x7 and 16x8 rims with correct clips and powdercoated black or grey and most of all with a SINGLE WELD!!! The 16x7 outer edge is aligned to body for street legal compliance al least in Australia. 100% factory look and hopefully within the $265 region ea. Photo shows the 16x7 prototype.

Will they have the clips for the hub caps ?
I think I wrote it that it will have correct riveted clips and choice of black or grey in sizes 16x7 or 16x8.
The 16x7 is totally street legal you could roll in the pits with them as it's edge is just within the body line and the single line weld looks 100% stock factory.
What else..? ;)

this idea came to me when I saw the tanks of mining trucks down at my powdercoater guy and asked him about. Those are the famous Aussie Road Trains and if it suits them it will suit me and my FJ too.
Some funny ideas of people saying powdercoating chips.. well it depends what powdercoating I guess. The right one will not chip you can hardly get it off with a grinder and I say this from personal experience.
