Most of you fine folks of the ONSC have never met me. I'm a professional lurker as evidenced by my join date vs. post count. I've been around the hallowed halls of MUD for quite awhile though and have made a few good friends along the way. I have watched MUD in general and this club in particular grow into something I could not imagine. I am amazed at the amount of time and dedication some you put towards this club and these vehicles. Kudos. It's people like you that will make the care taking of these vehicles and the sense of community possible for years to come.
Now onto the point of this post.
In June of last year forrest5000 bought my 80 and I casually started looking for a 40. Casually looking turned into looking everyday. I missed a few good ones, considered a few that now I'm glad I passed on. Then about a month ago I came across a post in the MUD classifieds looking to trade a dune beige 40 for a 60 in SC. I PM'd the guy told him I would buy it outright. He replied back that he had a lot of response and decided to take it off the market to reconsider. I figured that one was gone and if it came back it would be substantially more expensive. I kept on him though by sending an email per week just checking the status. No movement on his end. Then I found two Rustic Green 40's on ebay and made plans to drive to New Bern to look at them. To make a long story short, one of those 40's was sold here on MUD and the new owner is still trying to flip it for twice what he paid. IH8flippers. I sent another email to the owner of the Dune Beige 40 and told him I was considering two 40's and wanted to look at his, if for sale, to consider all options.. I did not realize at this point that the ebay 40's were being flipped. After the time came and went for me look at the Rustic Green 40's the owner of the Dune Beige 40 replied back to me wanting to know if I had bought a 40 yet. I said that I had not and he said his was for sale and to come look at it. My schedule is extremely full. I work 6 days a week, 10 hour days, then family obligations, etc. With my only day of being Sunday. He contacted me on a Monday and I told him it would be Sunday before I could make it. He said that because of my persistence and understanding of his situation he would hold it for me and give me first right of refusal. Thank you, Hmmm, if you are reading this.
This turned out to be the perfect situation and 40 for me. I had a seller willing to work with my schedule and a 40 that was accurately priced. Which to me means a very solid foundation but still needing some work. I'll get to that in an other post. I picked it up this past Sunday and drove it two hours home with no issues. Tonight I finally got her in the garage and the fun begins. Now some pics...
My plan is to drive it for awhile and see what shakes loose. Right now I am just looking forward to driving a 40 that took over 15 years to find.
A big thanks goes out to David, Raphael, and Eric for their guidance and opinions. I have been blowing them up over the past few months with emails and texts. Thanks guys!
I also plan to re-up my TLCA membership and then apply for a ONSC membership. I won't be around in person that often due to my work schedule but I plan to attend more events than I have in the past.
Thanks for reading this far and I look forward to meeting more of you.
