@db3 , how are you liking the 1HZ-T?
I've owned my 60 for over 30 years (2nd owner), and the 1HZ-T with the H55 is by far the best thing I've ever done to it. While the tune is very conservative, it provides more than enough power to keep from getting run off the road here in California. On my first road trip to Moab a couple of years ago I was heading up to Reno on Highway 80. Just before the Donner summit I needed to past a tour bus, so I moved into the fast lane and was able to accelerate in 5th, not even having to downshift. I was more concerned with my EGT's than the speed, and after pasting the bus I noticed I was doing 75MPH. So nice. With my 2F I would be in 3rd gear all the way up the mountain in the slow lane. On that trip I averaged 23 MPG overall, keeping an average speed around 62 - 65MPH. Since I'm long retired, I'm not in a hurry. At those speeds my RPM is around 2200, where the 1HZ seems to be the happiest. On another trip to New Mexico last Xmas, I was pushing 72 - 75MPH on Highway 40 and still averaged 21 MPG. Around town I usually get around 18 MPG, so obviously I am a very conservative driver. While the 1HZ-T doesn't provide the power and acceleration of a V8, I'm very happy with the performance. The nice thing is I can always modify it to get more power. Something I could not legally do here in California with the 2F due to the very restrictive smog laws. I'm sure you will be happy too.

I contacted Champion to see if they would modify their FJ60 radiator for custom applications and they replied with the following info. I think it's a bargain. Too bad I already ordered the radiator. I'll just get it modified locally. Hopefully, this helps someone doing the 1HZ/60 swap in the future. :)

Yes sir david,

So there is two options for doing that.

First option, which is called a "delete" and move which would be a visible patch where the outlet used to be and then relocated. This option is $60.00

Second Option, Which is simple called a replate which is exactly what its called, they replace the lower tank which essentially makes it look like it never happened. This option is $80.00.

However, when it comes to the lower tank most will just do the "delete" and move because in most applications the lower tank is not really that visible!

Let me know if you have any other questions i can assist you with!

Sincerely,

That’s why we love these diesels!

My new Champion radiator was delivered during my lunch break and I was able to drop it off at the welding shop. These guys are a father/son place and own Toyota's. Anyway, they said they'd have it done next week.

So, if anyone in Austin is looking for someone to do some welding for them, give Aus-Trev Machining & Welding a call.

One of my 3" exhaust pieces came in. Beefy.

I tried mocking up the intercooler, but it's really thick and takes up a ton of room. Might have to go with something less tall and not so thick. Might also look into an aftermarket condenser without the crossover pipe in the middle.

There is also a guy making metal grills that aren't as thick as the stock one. Might have to try one out, but I really like the stock look.

THICK. I like it.

Can you push the radiator back at all?

Man, I hear that all the time.

The radiator currently isn't the limiting factor in the radiator/condenser/intercooler stack since it mounts on the opposite side of the core support. The biggest space hog is the pipe on the condenser and the depth of the intercooler. If I go parallel flow condenser, it will be more efficient and will also eliminate that crossover pipe.
