I finally found the reason for no rotation. Remember the vacuum pump delete plate I made? Turns out the nipple I pressed into it to allow room for pulley bolt was not centered or deep enough. Removed the cover and everything spins freely. Centered the nipple, made it deeper, and will replace pulley bolt and spacer with shorter version.

Haven’t had any shop time lately. That’s a bad thing because I find myself reading build threads and spending more money on parts. Have 3 grills all in useable to good shape. Couldn’t resist getting this NOS one though. Do I have a problem? Should I be attending a support group..... oh wait this is the support group.

Still waiting on a FSM for the Benz motor. Need to make sure everything is in time. Meanwhile my wife thought we needed an electric UTV. Found this one on CL. Mechanical engineer built this from a 1982 prototype electric vehicle for the post office. 4x4 96 volt 60 hp toy. Works pretty well. Functionally great, just needs finishing.

Noticed it’s been a little over a year since I started this build thread. About to finish up the longest knuckle rebuild I’m aware of. Going on a few months. I will have a rolling chassis soon. First time since 2011. Working on getting Benz motor buttoned up. If I had only removed the cover plate first, I could’ve avoided sooo much work. Oh well, I learned a lot of new information. Hope the sty is hunkered down and staying healthy. On a side note, I think I had the virus in 2000. Was putting away 10-12 Coronas in Cancun and felt pretty ill later.

While reworking my cover plate, I noticed it failed a static leak test. After 24 hours of being filled with water, I could see a couple of problem areas. I ground the old welds down and laid another ugly bead on top. Ground that down to fit over the pump gear, tested again. No leaks! Realizing the Benz oil pressure was around 80psi, I thought I’d better seal it more.
The Chassis Saver website claims the cured product is resistant to most chemicals, including oil. Couldn’t find a definite heat resistance number, so I cooked a part already painted . Had it in the oven at 300* for about half an hour. No issues.
Painted both sides with 2 coats of the chassis saver silver, then the outside with high heat black. Checked fit on engine, no issues with rotating.
Yes those are bugger welds, getting better though.

Temporary license immediately . I’m in the high risk group, so not going to happen. Still got my favorite patient to care for. She wanted to help me work on cleaning up my valve cover, so gave her some 1500 wet/dry. Starting to look much better than when I started.
